Hi all
Just wondering what divers are using for their CO analysis while traveling now that Analox have stopped manufacturing their portable unit and with the CO-Pro being discontinued?
Its seems to me that there are plenty of inline units for compressor stations but a serious hole in the...
Thanks folks for the responses. Starting to look like Anilao may be out of my budget as a single traveller. The two places that have actually got back to me are looking at AUD$100 plus for accommodation and around the same per dive. Making a 4 dive day very expensive.
Might just have to add an...
Planning to spend a couple of weeks diving the Philippines after the DRT dive show in September. At this stage I am hoping to do 3-4 days at malapascua 2-3 days at anilao and 2-3 days Puerto Galera. I will be on a fairly tight budget.
Seeking advice on: hotels, dive operators, transport...
DO not put the reg back in if it has become dislodged.
Once the regulator is in place the temptation is there to purge it which then causes more issues (has been noted as a contributing factor in at least a couple of recent deaths in the Asia-Pacific region. If the victim is not breathing then...
This is the second positive news story for Tasmanian diver rescues this year. A couple of months back there was another diver rescued in similar circumstances off the North East coast when he was found floating, brought onboard the boat and CPR commenced - with a positive outcome.
Essentially as a non-Japanese/European national living in Japan you have two options for DAN coverage
You can join with DAN World (www.danworld.ky/) - which is the DAN entity which covers all the people who cannot conveniently fit under the rules of any of the other DAN entities...
From the new report I saw it was suggested that this was another "medical condition" death while scuba diving.
I have also seen a report that the stairs will be built.
Quite often the "commercial" diving in these areas is done using home-made compressors and too frequently these compressors are poorly maintained and left unattended on the boats.

It is always hard to read these kinds of articles but I agree that they are necessary to raise the awareness of our diving population that many diving accidents can be prevented.
My buddy and I had an understanding that at any time either of us could call a dive for any reason without having...
As for how DAN gathers its data - I cant answer specifically for the the other regions but as one of DAN Asia-Pacific's researchers I can tell you that in this region the data is collected through a number of means:
1) Mostly through regular trawling of internet news, dive forums, RSS feeds...
From what I have heard it seemed pretty obvious that the animal predation occurred post mortem. I imagine that the end result for this will be a verdict of drowning.
For this reason DAN (and other researchers) are moving towards root cause analysis of incidents to determine the chain of events that lead to the end result (ie the "cockup cascade"). The triggering event (what actually starts the incident) is usually much more telling than the cause of death.
Not a diving accident as such but divers taking a boat to the dive at Nusa Lembongan - news report here
Although another report indicates that the divers may have dived with 4 surfacing but the other 8 caught in a current.
