    Moving to Idaho

I'm in Mtn Home Idaho. I don't think the Santa Rose, Guam, or Belize Blue Holes are the one I'm looking for :) Supposedly, there's a warm spring called Blue Hole near here with awesome vis. Just can't find info on it.

    Doctor sparks debate over CPR

Didn't the red cross recently change their standards from 5:1 (two rescuer) to 15:2 for the very same reason (interruption of blood flow?). I did CPR once, in small-craft warning ocean conditions for 45 minutes in the water. Guy was revived in the ambulance, but died the next morning...

    leaky SPG hose

You might be able to get a shop to cut the hose and then refit the fitting. However, most shops (around here at least) don't want to do that because a) the liability of it leaking again and b) they would rather sell you a new hose. Can't answer your second question. I think that'd be...

    Bulk scuba hose.

There's an American standard as well, just can't think of it. If you're building a snuba, let me know how it turns out!

    Shore Diving - Training?

I do a lot of shore diving here and frequently see divers (including instructors/dms) getting knocked over. One of the easiest things you can do before entry/exit is to time the waves. I don't think many divers do it, or take it seriously. Many times I see divers getting tossed around and two...

    Bulk scuba hose.

A friend of mine was looking into buying some air compressor hose to build his own SNUBA system. We did some research and there is a standard (can't remember the name of it anymore) for breathing hoses. There's a website "Mar-vel" is the company (I think) where you can get bulk hosing for...

    cost of tanks in Idaho

Sweet! Thanks for the info. Tanks here are about $170 unless you know someone. Fortunately, I do, but I'll probably be shipping my household goods in June and would like to keep diving up to September.

    cost of tanks in Idaho

About how much are Al 80s in Idaho? I've got a couple of tanks, but would like to keep diving here until the day before I leave, sell them to a buddy, and buy some new ones when I move to Mountain Home. Thanks -Mic

First North Shore dive of the season

It was O-1, with an infrequent 2. Vis inside the cove was maybe 10' but outside the mouth, it was probably 40-60 or so. Wanted to dive this weekend, but maybe I should grab the stick instead. Looks like 6+, yeah?

    Is a Swimthrough an overhead?

I'm only familiar with a couple of the springs there...King's Head, Alexander, and Vortex. These were well marked, well blockaded where someone would have to "try" to get into trouble....but anyway. I saw someone post a PADI answer, but is that out of some policy/standards manual?

    Nitrox question

Heck...it's $4 for air here (unless you're in the club, then it's free). EAN32 is $12 whether or not it's your own tank and custom mixes are higher.

When a day goes to the dog...

That was really nice of you to do. Somewhat off-topic, did you know the US spends money recovering the bodies of MIAs and is (I believe) the only country in the world to do so? In my last job, we supported the Joint POW-MIA Accounting Command, whose job it is to find, recover, and identify...

    Is a Swimthrough an overhead?

I take people through lava tube swimthroughs all the time based on the NAUI guidance I posted earlier. I ALWAYS ask them if they're ok to proceed first and I don't take them through ones that are too narrow for us to go side by side. Even though the NAUI guidance even allows entering a wreck...

    Is a Swimthrough an overhead?

we have some HUGE swimthroughs here in Hawaii, although, when I was tagging along my wife's OW training dive, the instructor took us through a narrow (maybe 1 1/2 shoulder widths) cave which had a 90 degree turn. Only the instructor and I even had lights. I was NOT happy with him for taking my...
