    Hi Everyone!

Check the Indonesia sub-forum (Indonesia), liveaboard sub-forum (Liveaboards and Charter Boats), or basic discussion forum (Basic Scuba Discussions).

    What did you just say?

Not that bad. Part of the reason I took the Advance Open Water class a month or so after my OW is that I got free rentals for a couple of weeks. Those rental prices can be high and intimidating. Not necessarily the best reason, but not stupid.

    Night diving without a light?

Bring a light, turn it off if you want. Just as long as you have your primary light (and I'd recommend a backup light) in case of problems. Keep good track of your gauges and be extra cautious - especially make sure you have decent contact with your buddy. I wouldn't recommend it off for the...

Overly Dramatic Title: The Curse of The Most Experienced Diver

I also use a camera and want to take good photos without a silt-out. I'm also often one of the more experienced customers on a boat, even though I'm nowhere near as experienced as some people on Scubaboard. I generally try to get in the water ASAP. This gives me time to avoid other divers who...

    Questions on some equipment.

Very good price if they are functioning properly after checks. Good gear too. I use the Titan and the Suunto compass in Victoria, which is averages below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) water. If the gear is broken (e.g., cracked screen or such), don't get it, though.

Beach disaster with getting fins on and not being able to get up

I use spring straps on my fins. For shore dives, I wade in, then put them on while laying on my back. Without spring straps, I'd recommend just getting in waist/chest deep, like other posters suggested.

OW, Advanced, Rescue in 3 weeks

I'd recommend not to rush yourself. Once you get your Advanced, you should dive for a while and hone your skills before you add in new ones. I did my Advanced a month after my Open Water, but I didn't do my Rescue until six months later when my skills improved significantly. What use will your...

    ******** Strobe for canon s100***********

Not obsolete. I use an S95 with a fiber optic cable that detects the on-camera flash to activate the strobes. But then again, I use fully manual settings. The strobe you picked is fine - but $300 is on the pretty low end for a strobe set-up.

    Buoyancy control with drysuit

I do it the way your instructor says. I was taught the way PADI prescribes, but this is one aspect of diving that is personal preference. The BC dumps air faster, which could be advantageous in an emergency (e.g., uncontrolled ascent). This could also help you initially work out your buoyancy...

    Post your last gear purchase

Technically, dry gloves - but they're really just rubber sailing gloves that go over my drysuit cuffs. If that doesn't count, a drysuit.

    Just beginning Montreal

Ignore the spam. Once in a while it happens on the site. Keep diving and practicing your skills. I hear there's some great diving in Quebec. It gets a little bit cold, I assume, so you'll likely need to train/dive in a drysuit.

Hi - new this board and looking for a buddy and places to dive

I'd give you the same advice for anyone looking for dive buddies. Check your local dive shops. See if they have drop-in dives and join in; exchange numbers. You'd want to make sure your dive buddies are decent before going on a trip with them, wouldn't you? If not, you could just hang out at...

    Smoking on a dive boat

I've never been on a boat where someone actively smoked. However, usually my smoker friends are courteous to do it away from non-smokers. On a dive boat with scuba divers where SAC, time underwater, and air quality is a factor, I'd assume that people would be even more aware of their smoking...

Why should I pay $550 more for a Nauticam housing over Ikelite housing? RX100

With a Recsea, it's much easier to press the buttons. You can also access all the functions quickly, whereas sometimes it's very difficult to access some functions on the Ikelite; this allows for much more custom settings for the Recsea. And it's easier to switch lenses underwater. Worth the...

G-15 FLOODED!! (crap Canon Housing) Need Instructions to open...

Recsea's really good too - can use all the functions easily and can change lenses u/w without much difficulty. My condolences for your loss. Good luck with the replacement.

canon or ikelite houseing for s100

I'd go higher class, like Recsea or something. It will cost more, but it'll be easier to adjust underwater and even switch wet lenses underwater from macro/wide (once you get there). If you're not willing to spend more money, I'd go Ikelite - it has much more options (lenses and such) and a...

    Leisurepro bait and switch

Rare when people admit a little bit of an overreaction, especially on the internet. I commend that. However, I'd suggest editing your original post with this just so there are no misinterpretations. And I suggest actually trying out LeisurePro by buying an item or two and then making a more...
