    min. wing size to twinset

I have twin 300bar 7s and I use an Apeks WTX3 (32lbs) wing with them, no problems. I did try them with a 40lb wing but found that the wing was too wide and tended to wrap around the tanks. It would have been ok with a wide manifold, but mine is a narrow one and it was cheaper and easier to...

We could fit 8 divers on that RIB, as long as they were really good friends ;)

durable balanced second stage and not expensive

$349 is ~£210, so the price isn't far out. And I got them from my LDS so didn't need to pay postage and import duties from the US, which could easily add £100 to the price. I agree with you about availability though. Apeks are probably the most common reg used in the UK, a combination of...

How many second stages when diving with a pony?

The pony is not included in the gas planning, it's there to get get you out of trouble if the **** hits the fan. We commonly use small 3ltr pony tanks which should be enough to get to the surface from 30m, but a stressed diver could easily empty it long before that. This would mean another reg...

durable balanced second stage and not expensive

You can still get the ATX40 and DS4. I bought two in January for £150 each. All the reg you will ever need.

How many second stages when diving with a pony?

That was my thinking too. Pony is an acronym, Piss Off Not Yours :) I used a normal rec rig with an octo in the triangle, and my black pony reg bungeed under my chin. If another diver asked for gas then I would give them my octo. If they just took a reg it was likely to be the octo, in...

We sold one of our club RIBs a couple of years ago, we asked £6k and got it with no haggling which leads me to think it was cheap. We still have another two, a 6m Tornado with a 150hp Honda outboard, and a 5m Tornado with a 115hp outboard. They don't get used nearly as much as they should

Regulator preventative maintenance - what's your routine?

I wouldn't use silicon grease anywhere near my regs, but then I occasionally use nitrox with high O2 content. I use your alternative method for my assorted Apeks regs

    Apeks regs

XTX has user changeable exhaust tees (narrow/wide), ability to feed hose from left and right, different faceplate, £50 extra. I have an ATX200/ATX50 and FSR for singles and a TX50/ATX50 on DSTs with 5th port conversion for twins. Also have a couple of ATX40/DS4s for stage regs. I'm a bit of...

    C-Card Recognition: Myth or Fact?

You'd think that if they see a lot of UK divers they would be familiar with the 3rd largest UK agency, wouldn't you? :)

    Apeks regs

The Egress is the only Apeks reg I wouldn't have on my kit, and I wouldn't be too happy if I had to use one in an emergency. Better than nothing, but I would have got an XTX40 octo. I use a mixture of TX/ATX 40/50/200 for all my diving, UK and warm water.

    C-Card Recognition: Myth or Fact?

I have a PADI DM card, so I don't have problems getting my card recognised. I am also a member of an SAA club, a UK based agency. Several members of the club have reported that foreign dive centres have failed to recognise their qualifications and refused to let them dive - France and Egypt...

Tips, Tips, Tips?..? How much and why?

As a DM I got paid for guiding dives in Egypt - €12 per dive, usually 2 dives per day. In the UK I assisted with classes with no pay or tips (though I rarely bought a beer in the bar afterwards). I even paid my own entry fee to inland sites sometimes.

Tips, Tips, Tips?..? How much and why?

:shocked2: I did a 2 dive trip from Eyemouth yesterday, £40 (~$60). We don't tip charter boat skippers or crew in the UK.

    Playa Del Carmen/Playacar advice please

My wife and I have just booked a week in Playacar, we're flying out on 14th Sept. Although we are both divers we're not planning on spending the whole week diving, just a couple of days She's not interested in diving cenotes so it's going to be sea dives. We have no plans to dive Cozumel...

What does it take to get you to carry (& use) an SMB & spool on every ocean dive?

I take a DSMB and a reel on all my UK sea dives, along with a backup DSMB and a spool. My buddy takes a DSMB & reel too, and one or the other of us will deploy one as we leave the bottom. Unless we come back up the shotline. On warm water/tropical dives I take a DSMB and spool if we are...

Separate Hose Mounted SPG for Pony Overkill??

No octopus and bungeed pony sounds like a bad idea to me. If your buddy has an OOG which reg do you give him? The pony is on a bungee round your neck so not acessible, the primary is on a standard 24" hose which keeps you uncomfortably close. I don't use a pony these days, but when I did I...

Separate Hose Mounted SPG for Pony Overkill??

I use similar regs on all my cylinders, but different mouthpieces - Comfobite on my primary regs and a standard mouthpiece on everything else so I know as soon as I put the reg in my mouth if it's the right one or not. If you want to keep the same mouthpiece then an elastic band in a figure 8...
