How NOT to dive Monad Shoal in Malapascua. Is a Thresher sighting worth the damage?

Limiting diver numbers as done in other places such as Sipidan may help to reduce damage as well. Certain shops have been known to send over 100 divers on a single morning to the site - plus all the other shops that send multiple boats. Might not help profitability in the short term, but could...

    Dauin + Balicasag/Alona

No rumours anymore. Hammerheads have been seen at Apo (fortunately by me :D) at depths between 45m to 60m. Nice close siting of a Great on one dive. Threshers have also been seen in the same vicinity. I have heard of both shark species been spotted shallower - however, don't come in expecting...

    trimix training

I gained benefit from deep air on my ER/Trimix class. For a very similar reason to Andy, it was nice to be able to remember extra details. However, I would still choose to dive air to 55m, but I am very aware of my functional differences, and I only dive tropical waters. The other divers in my...

    Suggestions for area's to vist

Well, I live here in Dauin/Dumaguete. It is certainly much (and I mean MUCH) quieter than the likes of Phuket. I haven't been to Bohol or PG for a few years but I would imagine they are a little bit busier than we are with numbers of travelers. I have never felt like I am sharing this...

Where to dive in late March for must-see PI experiences?

You have most of the information already, so all I am going to throw out there is.....Evolution in Malapascua (I do my technical training with Matt there and it is fantastico!) and Liquid Dumaguete (I work there and think it is spot on - but I might be biased ;) )! Lived in Dauin for over a...

    Dauin in April/May

Alright smart guy....there is no question my diving has a few years of catching up to do. CCR try dive....pfffff really, that's just a fancy DSD to some of us ;) I'll have to catch up with you to try and 'hopefully' make some plans for January!

    Dauin in April/May

Alright, alright. Some of us have had students to be teaching Matt ;) As already stated weather is certainly on the turn for the best that time of year. The critters are out regardless of the weather all year round there is plenty to see. Now it is 'winter' the flamboyant cuttlefish and blue...

Another shout out for Felix, I can nearly see his place from Dauin but I have yet to get out on a dive with him over there!

Suggestions on where to stay in Dumaguete area

Many options at your disposal down here in Dauin, HOWEVER, don't expect to be able to walk to a huge amount of night life. If you want to go out for meals, bars or live music then Dumaguete city is only a 20 to 30 minute ride away (whichever mode of transport you choose). As for other things...

where to go in the philippines?

Tech Wreck courses - Matt Reed - Evolution, Malapascua or Andy Davis (DevonDiver) - Subic (freelance I believe). Drop either or them a line and I'm sure they will do their best to accommodate your needs. :)

Three Gas Computer? DG03 or other?

Heinrichs Weikamp OSTC 2n is another option. Just got mine and I find it the mutts nuts....however having not used a SW Predator I couldn't comment on how they compare. I highly like the fact that the HW is open source and they update the firmware frequently. I don't think you can go wrong with...

After 5 trips, Looking for new GREAT places to dive in Philippines

Malapascua? Drop Matt a shout at Evolution. Sipilay looks pretty darn nice though, haven't had a chance to get over there myself yet!

    Liveaboard routes

I think Atlantis have a liveaboard called the Azores. Seems to spend a lot of time around Dauin these days. Maybe a Visayas route they are offering? I'm not sure about Sea Explorers but I can certainly find out and get back to you. There is also the Philippine Siren - SB are organising a trip on...

Simple as ;).....HPNS - what do we know?

Hey good people, As the title suggests. I'm looking (and have been for sometime) on what we do/what we don't know about HPNS. I have the old COMEX stuff but is there anything else people can point me in the direction of. I might already have it, I might not. Anything and everything will do...

Malapascua - Exotic Island vs. TSD vs. Evolution Diving

First negative word I've heard of Evolution since they have been open. The way they run and operate certainly suits me and many others. As far as I am aware (and experienced) Matt and David are not only extremely professional and hospitable, but also genuinely nice guys.

2nd dive trip to Philippines in October

Dumaguete-Bohol-Cebu (Moalboal or Malapascua) makes sense with transport. It's just the way the ferries run. 2 hours from Dumaguete to Tagbileran (sp?) then another 2 hours from there to Cebu.
