    Coming to Houston

I lived and dove in Guam ... I wore a 3mm and hood in 85 degree water! I wouldn't dream of diving Hawaii's cold water in my skin (much less here in Houston).

    Gotta dive... SOS!!!

Next week... Sunday, Monday or Tuesday (25,26,27) I'd go. I don't have my schedule for October yet.

diving with children is same as solo

Another point... even if you feel you are totally responsible for both people's safety... If YOU have a problem, there's still a second complete set of gear for you to take advantage of. Even if your daughter doesn't have the ability to provide assistance, YOU can take the initiative and make...

    Brass is bad?

Brass is soft... it nicks very easily ... this COULD leave little sharp points that could scratch/cut. SS is WAY harder.

    Tuesday or Wednesday diving ??

Hey ... I'm in Houston area, looking for folks who can dive during the week (any time of day). I'm gonna try and get out there tomorrow or Wednesday if anyone's interested in meeting a new dive buddy!

Any one up for diving on Aug 19 or 26

Change of plans .... I am now available on Friday .. would love to meet some new dive-buddies. Is there something between Dallas and Houston we could meet at ?

    Dallas - surgical tubing

I'f your LDS sells spear-fishing stuff, the "bungee" from a spear pole will work well also (in use on my kit). They are sold separately, you don't have to buy the whole spear/pole setup :)

    T.L. Sunday

Well, Colt was a great guide. We went to TwinLakes and vis was about 20 feet (till about 15 feet deep, then it went south quickly!). I'm told that's pretty decent vis around here ... oh well Otherwise, I put my blind navigation skills to the test and we managed to find some of the stuff out...

    Streamlining a pistol grip light.

What works for me is bolt-snap the light to my front crotch d-ring (no scooter used) ... the light is ever so slightly bouyant, so it floats up out of the slipstream when not in use. I also prefer the lantern grip... slightly more compact, and I left the lanyard on ... I'd just hate to loose...

    First BP wing experience

I don't like the Halcyon Backplate pocket either ... I got a "belt pocket" that slides on in place of the canister light (i don't use one) ... and put the bouy in there... easy to get to/restow ... Would have to reconsider if I get into diving that requires a light though.

    Mask and hood

I put my maskstrap over the hood... makes it easier to fix mask problems like fogging, positioning, etc. ... i've never had a loose lense

A few questions: Weight & Hood

personally, (no DIR experience) I like the mask outside the hood simply because it makes it easier to remove the mask. Perhaps it gets a little foggy, or perhaps I blow a big green thing into it :) ... nice to be able to remove the mask and clean it without cracking the "seal" on my hood.

    quicktime of me

I was rather amused by "Britney's Guide to Semiconductor Physics". otherwise, your site is definitely getting pounded ... i tried to watch one of the vids, and after about one minute, I realized it had ony downloaded 297KB of the file ... :) darn diving / tech geeks !

    Cairns early 2006

Are you kidding ??? ... there is a TON of stuff to do around Cairns when you're not diving ... The train/Skyrail trip to Kuranda. A day-trip (or longer) to Undara. Half a dozen waterfall hikes within a 90 minute drive. An unlimited number of mountain hikes within the same distance...

    Suunto Stinger

My Stinger is mostly used as a simple gauge, but I do like it ... small enough to wear as a watch when traveling to dive. The display, however, is NOT the greatest... It's fine when viewed straight-on, but when viewed at an angle, all segmants show up on the LCD, even the ones that are...

    Tec Equipment

odd ... I did a PADI Rescue Diver (and later DM) course using a BP/Wing ... and a long hose. It complicated things for the instructor, but the course was for MY benefit, not his :) In fact, he's been a mentor for a lot of my diving, and looked at the experience as a learning event for himself...

    Camera Position

I don't qualify as DIR, but I dive a Hog rig... I clip it to the d-ring on the front of the crotchstrap... but my camera is slightly bouyant, so it doesn't hang down and beat up the coral. Makes it easy/quick to get at when that big ray or turtle swims by !
