It was actually my favorite Hawaii dive, despite the hike. Garden eels at 130' on the outside of the cove. Turtle cleaning station across the cove. Easy entry/exit with coral beginning only a few feet from shore. I saw a marlin jumping in the cove from the beach. My ex had a manta swim up to her...
I mounted a GoPro on top of my housing while also attempting to get still photos using strobes at the Galapagos. Due to currents and the rules of our guides, I was not happy with my results. We were told to stay behind the guides, which meant we could not get close enough for a shot unless an...
Bungees are strong enough to last for more than 1,000 dives, easier to use with a single finger than springs, easy to replace, and cost next to nothing compared to springs.
I love bungees. They are easier to pull than springs, last 1,000+ dives, and are cheap and easy to replace. I had a knot in the fins in the photo, but for the past several years I have been fastening the bungees with zip ties.
I wish I had thought of the bike tools. I have some in the garage. Once you learn the trick to installing Ultimas, it's not so bad, but Rolock90s are much easier.
I agree with @NauticalNick. Many agencies teach using the drysuit for buoyancy, which is dangerous. Use your BC as it was intended. After a few dives and getting your weight dialed in, it will become easier to use the air in your drysuit to avoid the squeeze and have just the right amount of...
My rigging. I make sure to clip the bolt snap hanging under the housing to my chest D-Ring before unsnapping the two boly snaps on the carabiners. The housing is never unclipped to at least one bolt snap until it is back on the boat.
Our bodies can only metabolize about 5% of the oxygen we breathe. The other 95% is exhaled. Adding oxygen to the air does not increase the amount we use.
It had been ten months since we last dived Spongehenge at Hermosa Beach Artificial Reef. Storms had knocked over the rodeo bar that the Giant Sea Bass used as a cleaning and mating site. I didn't know if we would ever return, but the ocean was calm enough for us to give it a go. This morning...
The risk of DCS is already so low for recreational scuba that any reduction of that risk would be less than a percentage point. Nitrox is great for allowing longer bottom times or shorter surface intervals. Anything else is just conjecture.
