You want to go deep? Very deep? And indoor?

Just checked my computer, as I didn't have it when I posted yesterday: it says 34.4, which I suppose beats a few of the others, as the converter you so nicely indicated gives a full 112.86'. It goes without saying that I had it on my wrist and I didn't put it flat on the floor.

What have you seen underwater that you'll never forget?

Let's see: my first shark (a hammerhead in Ras Mohamed near Sharm el Sheikh), my first octopus, my first manta ray (from far away but I had confirmation it was one from the guide), my first porcupine who doesn't inflate (in fact it's a she and she's quite tame). I still miss dolphins and...

You want to go deep? Very deep? And indoor? (Nemo33)

Just checked my computer: it says 34.4 and I didn't put it flat on the floor. I suppose that beats a few complaints on same depth elsewhere?

You want to go deep? Very deep? And indoor?

They were talking about going into the Guinness Book of Records. I have no idea whether it is indeed the case. Anyway they had so many problems with waterproof and tiling they ended up with being two years late with regards to getting it open to the public. Maybe it was the deepest when...

You want to go deep? Very deep? And indoor?

Can you convert in °C? The silo is certainly deeper, but it seems the temperature is much lower. And by the way, the pool in Brussels was not converted from something else, it was built on purpose.

You are obliged to use their equipment for hygiene reasons, and are only allowed to bring mask and fins and a shorty if you really want to. I think computers are available for rent, but I've seen a few people using one for two buddies (I know, it is bad, but they weren't in my group).

You want to go deep? Very deep? And indoor? (Nemo33)

The deepest indoor pool in the world is in Belgium! 33 metres (about 100') at a constant of 31°C (I'm lost with °F, sorry). It opened on May, 1rst in the Brussels suburbs and I had my first try at it last night. Nice big pool, nice new equipment (access fees include everything except...

What have you seen underwater that you'll never forget?

Joee, a female diodon who lives around the Rocher du Diamant in Martinique. Porcupine fish are well known for puffing up when disturbed. Joee not only does not puff up, she swims happily towards divers whenever they come her nick of the woods. This happens more or less every day. I...

Maldives or Phuket? Best option for a novice diver

I'd skip Phuket for Krabi or PhiPhi, the Maldives are horribly expensive and you enjoy them more with a bit of experience, due to very strong currents. Not to mention I'm not sure you'd be able to stay just a few days outside the classical standard of one week or multiples thereof.

A call to PADI certified divers and poll about 2001 MSD changes.

I voted "yes", and trying not to be offensive with those of you who voted "no", I'll just give one example. I just passed my instructor level training in "gear": the guidelines instruct you to go all the way through anything pertaining scuba gear, from reg bags to computers, but that's about...

OK, I found my avatar back, where do I find the upgrade threads (lazy and not too much time on my hands I'm afraid)?

    Going, going, almost gone

I'm leaving on Saturday to Martinique, which is about the cheapest option with good diving in the Caribean for anyone coming from Europe. First time, and happy as they come! Passing my 3* CMAS (to show only when in France where they are prone to grumbling in front of a PADI card)...

Can someone PLEASE give me some indication of what happened in the last couple of months? I'm lost and I'm not sure I like the new format (just need to get accustomed to it I suppose). And I used to have an avatar as well!

Is it possible to skip 'local dives' at Sharm?

Not miss much? You've got to be kidding! Don't underestimate local dives in Sharm such as Far Garden, Temple or Ras Katy (just to name a few and out of memory, haven't been there for over two years and I don't have my logbook at hand). Nice easy dives, but the Red Sea being such a...

    Celebrities who dive

A few months ago there was a discussion about famous people who are known to be divers. I'm a big ER fan: in season 9 (we're getting at the end of it, basically we're one year behind) there is an episode where Dr. Carter goes diving to some Caribean destination and is forced to come back...

    Bonaire

Problem is I travel alone, but don't dive solo ;) Renting a car would probably mean having an international driving license, which I don't, and I'd rather not go around looking for a buddy not really knowing what I'm in for. I don't mind shore diving, but I do appreciate guided dives...
