    NELD get together - 28-Nov

I heard tomorrow's supposed to be snotty, with 50kt winds. We each went home with a gallon ziplock bag of scallops, and a couple of lobsters that were going to be donated to a charity raffle tomorrow in someone's home town. We were in 50-70' waters, anywhere from 5-15 ft vis. Water was...

    NELD get together - 28-Nov

Cape Ann's big boat ... but before you get your hopes up, we have it booked. Hopefully we'll get out there tomorrow. Its all instructors and DMs tomorrow, so its gotta be pretty bad for us to not want to go. I'll let you know tomorrow what happens. (A quick look at the NOAA buoys...

Good Conditions at Back Beach today...

Well, Isabel didn't wreck the conditions any (for that matter, it might have improved them some.). 15-20 foot vis, I don't know an accurate bottom temp, as I wasn't cold, and didn't check very often. It may have been as warm as 62 in 20-25' of water.

    free flowing reg question

Given a no-deco dive, I'd be breathing off the free-flowing reg as long as possible while ascending to the surface with my buddy. The primary reason would be that you are in conditions that just caused one regulator to freeze up. If two people are breathing off one first stage, I'd say...

    NE Kayak Diving

Two of my instructors both have kayaks, (coulda sworn Ocean Kayak, but none of the models seem to match what thay have). Both are tandems, similar to the Malabu Two. They actually get the most use over at Folly Cove, where the number of people assisting the class will dictate how its being...

    Sea Sickness?!

(Big note, I didn't see where this article was posted originally, but you don't know if the good Doc who wrote it had any thoughts towards diving when writing it.) One note on Scopolamine, it tends to have a similar effect as if you had a drink or two. If you were dependent on Scop to make...

The Natives are restless at Old Garden Beach....

Its quite easy, you see. When you go for the weekend, you get an air fill at CAD, walk across the parking lot to the packie there, and then you drive to your favorite local motel where you sit in the hot tub or sauna drinking your beer, with an occasional jump in the pool... (and its all...

The Natives are restless at Old Garden Beach....

Well, the early morning starts are usually due to the instructor's desire to get home at a decent time. Meeting at CAD at 8AM, I'll usually get home anywhere from 2-4 PM after helping with a class. And I'm only going to Arlington, most of the folks I'm with are coming from the Worcester area...

The Natives are restless at Old Garden Beach....

(I was forwarded this via email) from Gloucester daily times By JOSH ODELL Staff writer ROCKPORT -- Like many of her neighbors, resident Sharon Kishida has had a hard time enjoying Old Garden Beach lately. And like many of her neighbors, she says it's not hard to see why...

Pack of sharks off Salem, MA!

I worked a couple fridays with a friend out on a boat (Lots of fishing involved, not too many people needed tows...) out of Beverly.. I swear he caught 30 dogs for every non-dog he caught out there. Also, some friends did the Poling last Wednesday night, and they saw a number...

Mooring in place this season on Saturday Night Ledge?

Ah, someone beat me to it, I saw the buoy (white, with a red band, slightly larger than a lobster pot marker) 2 weeks ago. As it sounds, its a ledge with a ~5-6 crack in the top. The top of the ledge is ~90ft if I recall correctly, and the crack drops down to close to 120 ft at the bottom...

Best advice (other than the standard Dive with a buddy) is to remember how to breathe from a freeflowing regulator...

    Cold water regulators

You're very right. I'd only shut off one or the other, not both (directions include a mention to have a over-pressurization relief valve of sorts if its to be used with a single 2nd stage on a pony bottle setup.). The shutoffs aren't perfect, they only give you a slightly better alternative...

    Cold water regulators

I'd go for the Blizzard over the the Maximus due to less overall parts -> less to go wong. I actually had my brut out in 35 degree water, and was one of the few who didn't freeze the 2nd stage & start freeflowing. I will hopefully be getting a Blizzard though before next winter (if I ever...

    Who's dove Halibut point?

I did this once after we spent the morning at Folly cove with a class. With wetsuits already wet, it was bearable to walk down the path in full gear. One problem with trying to use a cart is there are some log-made steps that can make it hard (I heard rumors of one of my instructors trying a...
