    Spearguns

Glad you found the site useful, Sara. Tons of information on that site beyond the recipes too. My Riffe is a bit smaller - I don't remember the exact size, but it's in the 34-36 inch range. I prefer that to the big guns when I'm working around wrecks. It's a 3 bander, and depending on the...

    New Regulator Purchase...Help!!

I've used the Oceanic Delta 3 for over a year, and although it's no longer my primary reg, it's a good solid choice.

    Spearguns

I'd go for the Riffe. I bit the bullet and spent the extra bucks, and I've never been sorry about that decision. Quiet, accurate, smooth action... love it, love it, love it. Yeah, the gun floats after the spear is away - but it's never been that big of a deal for me. The weight of the...

    When to winterize?

This is the best time of year for Jersey diving. Warm temps, and awesome vis. Last Sunday we had vis approachign 50 ft, and the temperatures were 58-60 degrees at 80fsw. Dive report: http://squidly.com/scuba/102101/dive102101.htm

    Who's diving this weekend?

I was booked Saturday on the Bottom Time (dive boat out of Barnegat Light, NJ) but they just called and cancelled the trip. High seas predicted tomorrow. :P Next trip is Friday, 8/31.. The boat's the same, the destination will be the Gulf Trade (Stern section).

How do you attach your pony bottle?

An 80 and a 30cf on a 130'-150' wreck? *cough* Sounds like Darwinism in effect rather than an indictment against the 30cf pony. Also, while 30cf "isn't much at 100'", it's better than nothing - no matter how you sling it.

    Resolution of symptoms

Thanks for the response, Dr. D... Very interesting. Do Neurological symptoms tend to persist due to actual nerve damage that is taking place due to impingment of the bubbles? And how do the joint symptoms disappear - are the bubbles simply re-absorbed eventually - removing the irritation?

    Ebay

You can buy a reg or a bc from Ebay, often for *far* less than you can get it elsewhere, and be perfectly safe in doing so. The key, as I wrote above, is to GET IT INSPECTED/SERVICED prior to use. I saved $400 on a practically new regulator that works flawlessly and that I now trust...

    Resolution of symptoms

The question is - if you've already got (relatively) minor symptoms (say, joint pain) and you don't hit the chamber, is that pain going to stay with you - and at the same level - your entire life?

    Resolution of symptoms

I've been reading Sheck Exley's book "Caverns Measureless to Man", and a question came to me based on this passage: "Worse, John got bent on the dive despite his liberal use of oxygen (a concession to the increased susceptibility to bends of divers more than 40 years of age). He quietly...

Extremely tough to say without seeing your rig, but it sounds like your BC was positioned too high on your tank.

    Ebay

Counterpoint - I purchased a regulator on Ebay (used, but like new) for 1/3 what it would cost me at my LDS. It has worked great from day 1. Tips: + When buying high-ticket items (whatever that level is for YOU), buy from reputable dealers with high postive ratings. + Get life support...

Has anyone met one of the diving greats such as Gary Gentile?

Yes the word "Great" or "celebrity" is subjective, based on the type of diving you do and where you are. And the east coast wreck diving community is far less of a "clique" now than it used to be. Gentile is mentioned in several of the recent Doria books, but that only scratches the surface...
