Service issues at LDS for used equip or bought elsewhere?

Hi everyone, I'm new at this, but just starting to look at purchasing my own equipment. I understand that you need to have regulators serviced every year, is that true for BCs too? If I buy online (from an authorized dealer) will I be able get service from a local dealer? Or what if I...

    Problems with Sherwood Luna?

Hi, Ok, so I'm talking to local shops and trying on BCs. At the Scuba show I tried on a Sherwood Luna, and it fit better than anything else I've put on. I liked all the features, and so far haven't found anything else that compares as well (for me). So I ask the owner of the LDS down the...

Guidelines for lift? Rec diving, so calif

Great information you guys, thanks for taking the time to help. I think you just saved me from getting something that works great, in 50% of my diving! Now I can have an intelligent discussion with my LDS. Thanks a bunch, FishLips

    store near LAX airport?

The closest store to LAX would be Sport Chalet, and probably cheapest too. The Santa Monica stores are about a 20 min drive from the airport, and the Malibu store about an hour. Call first to see if they have what you want though. Sport Chalet (310) 821-9400 13455 Maxella Ave # 138...

Guidelines for lift? Rec diving, so calif

Hi everyone. I'm a new diver looking to buy my first BC. I'm female, 130 pounds, and will be doing most of my diving in So Calif with a 7mm suit, and the Caribbean. One BC I'm looking at only has 21 pounds of lift - what is a good rule of thumb for how much lift I'll need? I'm pretty...

    recommend a dive magazine

I'm a new diver, so I just subscribed to Rodale's Scuba Diving, and I was disappointed to see the pages and pages of ads for travel, dive resorts etc. In fact, it seems like the main stories are even about "best dive spots" which read like travel brochures. Not as much on diving techniques...

Panic Attack During OWC - Had to Bail

Shaken Bake, I was always afraid of the water, couldn't swim well, and the idea of scuba diving was the LAST thing I ever thought I could do. Well, several of our friends go to a great diving spot every year, and I finally decided to at least give it a try. I did pretty well in all of my...

Buying first reg; what questions to ask?

Hi all, I'm a new diver, and I'll be going to the Scuba Show in Long Beach next week. I'm trying to get educated about gear so I don't overspend on features I don't need, but so I get what I do need. I'll be diving primarily in Southern California, and occasionally Mexico and the Caribbean...

Why are you called.....The Great Screen Name Thread

Just change it to... UsedToBeSoCaldiver or.... WasASoCalDiver - then we'll know it's you! I currently AM a socal diver, a brand new one, and I chose my name after viewing one of the first photos I took on my first dive trip (Bonaire), which you can see to the left. Hence the name FishLips...

    Problems w/battery charging in Bonaire

I'll be testing the system tomorrow - will report back. Also, I tried leaving the battery in the charger overnight, even though it showed a full charge. It was as if the charger "thought" the battery had a full charge and stopped doing it's job after 30 minutes or so.

    Problems w/battery charging in Bonaire

Hi, I'm a new diver, and a new underwater photographer. I'm using a Canon S400 digital which uses a proprietary rechargeable battery. The power supply on Bonaire is weird, it's 127V and 50 cycles, or something like that. The problem is that the charger would show a full charge on the batter...

First dive trip and Scuba Show

Hi Everyone! So glad to find ScubaBoard! I've already learned a lot here. I got OW certified on Apr 4, then went for a week in Bonaire. I'm hooked! What a fabulous experience. Our friends couldn't believe I was diving, since I'd always been fearful to get in water for any reason...
