Hit up the local dive shops and see if they have any good local recommendations. You also have Akaroa about 1.5 hr away and some local lakes for some fresh water diving.

I have lived in Christchurch for the past 2 years and the only place i found to have decent diving near CHCH is Kaikoura which is about 2.5 hours north of Chrsitchurch. There is a dive shop in Kaikoura although not sure if its still open since the big earthquake. Christchurch also has 2 or 3...

I live in Christchurch and Goose Bay is a few hours north of me. Waiting to hear what happened, so sad....RIP

Yea thats right down the road from me. The amount of devastation is hard to believe. Kaikoura is one of my favorite hang outs. Hopefully they are back up and running soon.

I'm still here too although I moved out of CA about a year ago. It's amazing this thread has gone on for so many years.

Check out Kaikoura. Its about 2.5 hours north of Christchurch and has some really nice diving. Just moved to Christchurch and have not found any great dive spots locally. Also check out Akaroa which is about 1.5 hr from the city.

Monterey Fire boat just docked at Breakwater performing CPR on a diver. Keep your fingers crossed for the diver. Never a good sign when they pull up to the dock performing CPR.

That would explain it. It has been a few years since I have last seen him. Me and my wife both looked at each other and said, hey there's fred...LOL. He used to ask my wife if she would go dive with him. We would always politely decline his request to dive with her. Oh the memories....LOL

Ran across fred at the parking lot in front of the breakwater deli yesterday. He still looks alive and well. He attempted to conversate with us but we just said hi and kept moving. I didn't notice any dive gear in the back of his red truck, yes he still drives the same truck...LOL. Does anyone...

Ahhhhh, bummer. I just read this and missed the sale by 4days, just my luck.....grrrrrrrrr :)
