I don't see why there is all this debate. As quoted in the Moyers "article", even one of the Coast Guard crew thought it was a wreck. It seems that a combination of both theories is the most probable. The U869 was sunk or disabled by her own torpedo and then finished off by the Coast Guard...

I haven't looked at the dive manual, yet. I have a copy, just not with me today. I'll get it tomorrow and have a look. I was thinking that the "Standardized Equipment list" would be more specific as to makes and models, however. I guess I was looking for something like this Navy Site.

As I said in my OP, I am curious. I'm not intending to go out and buy "NOAA approved" gear, it is just an idle curiousity. Since they wrote the NOAA Diving Manual I thought they had a lot to do with scuba diving. :)

What is defined as a pressure exposure? Just by the sound of it, that makes sense to me also. Since the vast majority of my dives are in a non-ocean environment, I've often wondered where "confined water" ends and "open water" begins.
