Thanks for everyone's replies. I think I'll go the with the BP/W. DeepSeaSupply was on my short list last time, I'll check them out again.

Recreational sidemount (single tank) vs. backmount (BP/Wings)

Hello all, I haven't been diving for about three years due to medical (type 2 diabetes) and financial reasons. I am now ready to return to the sport and I'm looking for some advise. I'm 52 years old, and I'm looking to purchase new gear. At the time I left, I was considering a...

    New SCUBA based novel

ebook format would be great. I buy most of my books for my kindle first, then if I really like them I buy a paper copy.

    Service or Replace

I have a set of Oceanic Omega II regulators (1st stage and two (2) 2nd stages) that I purchased in April 1988. I'm not sure of their last service date, but they have been in storage for the last ten years. Would it be more cost effective to have them serviced (I know the hoses need...

    Computer Recomendations?

Grumpy, I too have old eyes and am currently looking at my first computer. I'm also looking for a wrist mount. Keep in mind that the computer will give you your depth, so you only need an SPG on your HP hose. Some of wrist mounted nitrox capable computers I'm looking at are the Dive Rite...

    WTK: DSS/TDL Backplate Comparison

Tobin, Thank you for the quick reply. I can't think of any specific DSS questions... I've been reading the forums about backplates for some time now. Unfortunately, where I live there is no LDS that sells backplates of any kind. The closest is about a two hours drive, and at this point, I'm not...

    WTK: DSS/TDL Backplate Comparison

I'm looking for a comparison between the DSS and TDL backplates. Has anyone tried both? My usage would be single tank, wet diving, mostly recreational. I'm returning to diving after being inactive for a couple of years. I never liked the "recreational" BC's, so I'm looking to go with a...

    Omega II and Nitrox

Hello, I have an Omega II (Primary and Octo.) that I purchased in April 1988. I really love the regulators. I plan on taking a nitrox class in the near future. Can my regulators be used with nitrox =< 40% and if so what special precautions, if any, do I need to take. Thanks, Kent

    Tech Instructors in West Texas

Hi all, I'm wondering if there are any Tech instructors in the West Texas area. My interests are in nitrox, adv. nitrox, deep and wreck. I would like to get my nitrox from someone with a tech background if possible. Thanks, Kent

    Shadow Divers – Exposed U 869

I don't see why there is all this debate. As quoted in the Moyers "article", even one of the Coast Guard crew thought it was a wreck. It seems that a combination of both theories is the most probable. The U869 was sunk or disabled by her own torpedo and then finished off by the Coast Guard...

    NOAA Standardized Equipment List

Chris, Thanks for the information. No need to interrogate him :D , but if you get a chance to find out a little bit more like if there is a online list or something that would be great.

    NOAA Standardized Equipment List

I haven't looked at the dive manual, yet. I have a copy, just not with me today. I'll get it tomorrow and have a look. I was thinking that the "Standardized Equipment list" would be more specific as to makes and models, however. I guess I was looking for something like this Navy Site.

    NOAA Standardized Equipment List

As I said in my OP, I am curious. I'm not intending to go out and buy "NOAA approved" gear, it is just an idle curiousity. Since they wrote the NOAA Diving Manual I thought they had a lot to do with scuba diving. :)

    NOAA Standardized Equipment List

I was curious about what dive gear NOAA approves. Looking on the NOAA website for a list of their standardized equipment, the only thing I was able to find was this very generic list. Does anyone have or know of another resource that would have a detailed listing of NOAA approved gear...

    Question about logging dives.

I once participated in a Project AWARE clean up in a pond that was only 12 feet in depth and I logged those dives. Beng in Southern New Mexico, I also logged it as an altitude dive. Personally, I log anything that is not your standard swimming pool, and I'm now considering keeping a seperate...

    Commercial Diving... Sewers

Moderators: Please move this to a more appropriate place if needed. Several years ago there was a web page that had a story of a commercial diver working in a sewer. I think the title was "Sewer Rat", but I'm not sure. As best as I can remember there was some sort of stoppage he was working...

    Scubaopoly

I have a game called "Dive-opoly" copyright 1992 by Scuba Tool. I was wondering how different the current "Scubaopoly" game is. My game contains the following: Diveopoly money Player pieces: Yellow tank pink tank yellow fin orange fin pink mask yellow snorkel Treasure...

A little leak in New Mask

;) I'm guessing you didn't check the OP's profile... ;) Thresa: My first guess is that maybe you have some hair under the skirt of the mask. If that isn't the cause my only other guess it that the mask doesn't fit correctly.

To log pool "dives" or not to log...

What is defined as a pressure exposure? Just by the sound of it, that makes sense to me also. Since the vast majority of my dives are in a non-ocean environment, I've often wondered where "confined water" ends and "open water" begins.
