    Trip to RSDS in October

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo used to be as close to an Indiana Jones experience one can get. Has been renovated and I haven’t been since so don’t know if it still has that old, dusty but really cool vibe …

    Wrecks in the Red Sea

It is s big Yes. Thistlegorm is a fantastic dive, sometimes spectacular (viz, other boats and current the factors). The wrecks on Abu Nuhas is good as well, but not really of the same caliber. The only wreck dive trumphing Thistlegorm would be s/s Umbrea outside Port Sudan.

Trip Report Video - Diving the Fury Shoals (Egypt) from Wadi Lahami, Red Sea Diving Safari

Red Sea Diving Safaris Marsa Shagra and Marsa Nakari camps, to the North, have house reefs just next to the breakfast table.

    Trip Report Emperor Explorer Live

There has been a few bleaching episode where coral dies off in the Maldives. The 'big' one was in 1999, a big El Nino that effected reefs globally but mostly severe in the central Indian Ocean. Then there has been smaller ones a couple of times, one of them in 2015/2016. A lot of coral in the...

Hotel and diving base at Ras Nasrani (Sinai)?

The 00's were very touristy and perhaps the worst time to dive in the Sinai area. It all changed after some security concerns (bombs) and peaking when a Russian charter plane was shot down by terrorists. Direct charters from Europe to Sharm are slowly picking up, but are not nearly as many as...

Red Sea liveaboards with fast, reliable internet?

That's Europeans for the record. Cheap and with laws that force employers to give their employees minimum 5 paid weeks off every year ;)

    Advice Egypt Liveaboard

The Egyptian Red Sea is a year round destination, but it is very seasonal. Water temperature vary from 20 degrees Celcius in the Gulf of Aquba to tropical near 30 in late summer. April isn't the coldest month, but it is coldish. Anything is possible and years tend to vary a bit but after 20+...

Liveaboard options for Red Sea in July

Have done a few one weeks in Egypt with Blue o Two, including a North and Brothers in October 2017. But not after the "re-construction" in 2021, so cannot say for sure if things have changed. But they used to have a very solid offer inmo, with focus on working with some of the best local guides...

Liveaboard options for Red Sea in July

Liveaboard options for Red Sea in July

Blue o Two used to offer ”North & Brothers” — I think that was the name. Probably other operators too. So not correct info. I have done Abu Nuhas—Thistlegorm—RasMo—Tiran Strait—Brothers with BoT. There are yearly variation on what’s offered though. July generally good for all itineraries, esp...

Red Sea Diving Safari Marsa Shagra Marsa Nakari Wadi Lahami

I understand that the diving in Lahmi (have only been to Shagra and Nakari camps) has a different layout. There are no house reef just off the beach and all diving is from zodiacs. This might swing your choice in one or the other direction. Personally I give a slight edge to Shagra because I...

Egypt in January for first timers - which area?

It’s one dive and back to camp (when you dive with RSDS).

Egypt in January for first timers - which area?

That might be the case. I’m not in the ”inflatable boat brand”-loop, so thanks for pointing that out. Anyways … it is the bigger, rigid, twin engined, center console ”off shore” type. Not the smaller dingy-type (Dingy is not a brand, right?)

Egypt in January for first timers - which area?

It’s big, rigid ribs. Not zodiacs. Not sure about ladders, don’t think they have, but otoh I haven’t used one on a rib, ever. It’s easy enough to kick yourself up and ”fold” over the side.

Red Sea liveaboard versus Andaman Sea

It is a big question. There are so many different itinerarirs, but on a broad stroke — the Red Sea.

Dry suit in Egypt - November

Diving dry in November ... water will be 25-26 degrees Celcius and the air about the same. Most will be in 5 mm suits. Some in 3:s, and a few 7:s. You will most probably be the only one in a dry suit. Not saying you shouldn't, but you will make a very original choice. Come Dec/January and the...

Dreaming of a Sharm trip, looking for pointers

Just a guess, that the OP wants to go to Sharm because she wants to visit the Ras Mohamed National Park, the wreck of Thistlegorm and perhaps the Tiran Strait reefs? So Dahab is not a very good alternative as you can't reach any of them from there. Sharm El Sheikh (Naama Bay) is a lot quiter...

8 days in Egypt, any suggestions?

Two different itineraries that deserve two trips. Thistlegorm is one helluva dive when the conditions are right. Even people that hate wreck dives love it. Ras Mohamed is a fantastic dive –– in summer. So you won't be there when all the fish in the Red Sea gather for a big conference. Otoh in...

8 days in Egypt, any suggestions?

Not really. You can combine Hurghada and Marsa Alam, they are roughly 3 hours apart by car. Going to Sharm El Sheikh involves a flight, not sure about going from local Marsa Alam airport direct to Sharm, might involve going via Cairo. There used to be a ferry connecting Hurghada with Sharm, but...
