Newport Dive shop air fill cards not honored

Definitely one of the best shops in New England. Red loves the sport and it shows. I'll second John though, I sure wish Red had a branch in South County! Big vaccuum down here in the southern end of the state with OSS, Scuba Too and now Pier Dive Shop gone. :D

DEM ticketing divers without flags at Ft Wetherill

Just a heads up, DEM was aggressively ticketing divers without flags at Ft Wetherill this weekend. The Environmental Police officer had parked his car right on the ramp and was handing out tickets as people were coming out of the water. I was not one of his victims but he did write up quite a...

Wreck of the Teti- June 24, 2012

Earl, Ed and I dove the Teti today. It was the first time I dove the Teti this season although I have done it many times in previous years. I was impressed by just how much the wreck has decayed in the last couple of years. The steel plates have really started to turn into swiss cheese. Lots of...

Fort Wetherill Fish ID help needed.

Amazon.com: Bigelow and Schroeder's Fishes of the Gulf of Maine (Third Edition) (9781560989516): Bruce B. Collette, Grace Klein-Macphee: Books It's pricey, technical, and doesn't have all the fancy color plates of the more popular field guides but it is full of information and is easily the...

Fort Wetherill Fish ID help needed.

It's actually a young black sea bass, they change color as they age. Most of the guides just show the adults which look very different.

    Chester Poling - new finds?

I was out on the Poling with Cape Ann divers this weekend. One of the other divers on the charter found a brass cross with a statue of Jesus on it. I think he found it somewhere out in the sand off the wreck. The diver had a funny exchange with Captain Steve: Diver: "I didn't even realize the...

    30 days and counting

Bah, the Keys! Better you than me! Too warm, too clear, yuck! No wonder you need 115 lbs of malt, who could face such horrible conditions sober! Was that believable or did I lay it on too thick? :)

    Pool Time sports?

That game is supposed to be a good one although I've never played there personally due to the distance. You'll need to bring at least mask, fins (preferably full foot), and snorkel. You'll also need a stick, head gear and a glove for your stick hand but most clubs can loan these items to new...

    octopus at wetherill

I don't know much about octos, but another idea would be a deeper-water octopus that got a little closer to shore than usual. For example, this species is found around here if you get below 200m: Bathypolypus arcticus, deep sea octopus - The Cephalopod Page

    octopus at wetherill

Nice find! Those critters are such masters of camouflage that even if you're lucky enough to run across one, there's a pretty good chance you won't see it!
