What Do You Have on Your Boat that You Love?

A Kimber Arms 45. You never know what kind of people you will run into out on the water. A real first aid kit, flare gun and of course a marine radio.

    Shark bites liveaboard guest

I would really like to know what happened. I have been in the water in Belize when they chummed the water above us after the Blue hole dive on a safety stop. We were with Amigos Del Mar out of San Predro. They do this type of thing a hundred times a year and they have a perfect safety record as...

Are Suunto dive computers so conservative, they're useless?

You are correct in the fact that DCS is not an exact science. There is a general belief though that the Suunto dive computers are more conservative than others and that belief is based upon our experience diving with those computers and making the observation that when our computers are telling...

    Post Dive Reg Cleaning

Thanks for the reply all. SO rinsing is not enough? Everyone here suggest soaking while hooked up to a tank? If so, for how long? Chrisch, it was the standard small baggy that they give you when you service the reg. This time however, the bag was full of small parts. Usually, you would get...

Air Integrated Comp Holesess or console

Go with the console. I would suggest the Suunto Cobra. I dive hands free, I just secure the console hose on one of the BCD straps and all I have to do is look down to see what the computer is saying.

Are Suunto dive computers so conservative, they're useless?

I have a Cobra and the Suunto does NOT make you start over on a safety stop if you drop to 20 feet. It simply removes the safety stop timer and then resumes once you go above 20 feet. For example, if I dip down to 20 feet on a safety stop and I had 2 minutes left at 15, it will resume the...

    Suunto Dive Manager Software

That serial interface cable that attaches to the computer is pretty crappy. I have found that if you put the dive computer in PC mode, hold the cable firmly in the socket on the back of the dive computer and it will grab all the data on the first try. The new Suunto dive manager is MUCH...

    Post Dive Reg Cleaning

HI all, So, I will first start off by saying that in the past, I have been less than stellar on cleaning my reg which is moronic, yet true. The end result was 150 dollar overhaul fee(parts+labor) and a small bag FULL of bad parts that the dive shop pulled from my reg. Realizing that not...

    Hiking after diving

I don't know about you guys, but after making a few dives on air, the only motivation I have afterwards is to lay out on the beach with a good banana smoothie and work on my tan.

    Just got back from Belize

I must say that Belize was by far the best dive trip I have been on. San Pedro was a great town with friendly people. The diving was pretty good right off of Ambergrise Cay and the Blue Hole dive was FANTASTIC!!! We also did some dives on Turnefee and those were decent as well. For anybody...

    Lost At Sea In Cozumel

I just read through this thread and have a few observations: 1. It may or may not be possible, but it would make sense that a dive OP would attempt to do some kind of check dive with the divers before taking them on advanced dives. It would give the DM the time to gauge the skill level of the...

suunto cobra or oceanic pro plus 2?

They have made quite a few improvements in the new 2.X versions. Looks much better, a little easier to use. It is not the most intuitive software on the planet but as I mentioned before, it is a huge improvement over earlier versions. As for it being conservative, I would rather be safe and...

air integrated worth 2x the price

I think the spedometers in all the new honda civics are now digital with the tachometers being analog: http://automobiles.honda.com/models/interior_overview.asp?ModelName=Civic+Coupe

    Suunto Dive Manager Software

I had a heck of a time figuring out where to change from meters/feet etc etc. The software is not very intuitive. The UI though is a big improvement over the 1.X versions. As for nitrogen saturation, I am kind of suprised that they don't ask for height/weight to provide a more accurate picture...

    Greetings from a Texas Transplant

You got that right brother. Moving from Dallas to Seattle was a HUGE transition for me. Different people, different food, different....everything. I do miss Dallas but man, I don't miss the heat!! If anybody actually finds ANY decent tex-mex or BBQ up here, let me know!! :)

    Dacor Viper Metal?

What is the disadvantage to the viper metal? I have quite a few dives on it and I love it. I tried numerous rental regs before purchasing my viper.

    Regulator choice?

Are there any out there that breath easily at depth with no adjustements? I am on a Dacor Viper metal right now and I love it because it breaths easily whether I am at 10 feet or 90 feet.

    Air Integrated or not?

I have a number of dives on my Cobra. I also have the gauges as a backup. The cobra is always spot on and the air integration is nice because it allows me to upload my dive profiles to the computer and see my air usage throughout the dive. It also beeps at me obnoxiously when I am ascending...

Hotels and dive operators on Ambergris Caye

I will be staying down there next week at this resort: http://www.banyanbay.com/ I will post a report on the resort and diveop when we return the following week.

Shark Attack, almost caught on video Dolphin

I thought I saw the tiger stripes on the sides of the shark in the video, so it looked like a tiger to me. I could be wrong. Videos like this just enforce my feelings about why I don't snorkel! Sitting on the surface waiting for the boat has always been the most uncomfortable part of the...
