    Life insurance for technical diving

If you are going to go the techical route, get all of the insurance you can get now (and extra insurance you may remotely anticipate needing in the future)...before you get into technical diving. As the posts above allude to, when you apply for insurance it is based on your current history and...

When was the last time your reg was serviced?

Primary regs every 6 to 8 months. Deco regs - every 12 months I do check IP on primary regs prior to each dive and adjust if needed.

    Double 130's

Anyway you look at it, no matter what kind of shape you are in, they are heavy:D PST E8 130s weigh roughly 44.5lbs, empty, with a standard valve. Double that, you are at 89lbs. PST E7 120s weigh roughly 39.5lbs, empty, with a standard valve. Double that, you are at 79lbs PST E7 100s...

    Pompano Beach incident - 62 yo diver @ 200'

Humm...That's my neck of the woods too. As an FYI, there is bottom that deep 15 minutes out of the inlet (by boat, not shore diving :D). And, there are roughly 6 wrecks (that I know of - I am sure there are more) in the 175 to 215fsw - that close in....

    Tech Divers and Rescue Course

I took the Rescue course long before I considered tech diving. My progression was: OW to AOW to Rescue to (Tech Nitrox / Deco Procedures / Helitrox) to Trimix I. I would say take the Rescue class before heading into tech. If anything, it will help you build on the skills and confidence...

    Remote valve operator for doubles

This thing is an accident waiting to happen: http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/CategoryID_976/Context_974/Sort_Stock/DescSort_0/Filter_6%3d520/OMSRV30.html?Hit=1 To me it appears to be a huge failure point. In an emergency that requires one to shut down the isolator valve, you may have very...

    red sail sports

I dive with them every year and they are a first rate outfit. Not the least expensive on the island but run great trips, especially on the N. Wall.. Most of the operators in Grand C use 72s off of the recreational boats. Typically for the profiles they allow you to do (quite conservative) you...

is 30# wing enough for this???

When I dive my halcyon eclipse single tank 30# wing w/ a steel 120 , I have never had a problem when slinging a 40cf tank. When diving double AL80s and slinging 2 40cf deco bottles, I use a 40# halcyon explorer w/ no problems at all. When diving double HP steel 120s or equivalent w/ 2 40cf...

    KY jelly on DS seals

No...you just use that when applying the condom catheter:D In all seriousness though, the liquid K-Y is not going to hurt the seals. I know plenty of people that use it or an eqivalent w/ great results...

    Bottom Timer and dive computer

On a technical dive I carry an Uwatec Digital Bottom Timer, an Oceanic Versa Pro set to gauge mode, and a mechanical watch. I use V-Planner to cut tables and carry two sets of the same dive profile in two different locations on my person (1 copy in wet notes and 1 copy laminated). I keep my...

Why no deco dives off charters?

No, I'm guessing they would not want you to blow off deco and get bent. All you are going to wind up doing is pis*ing off the captain and getting banned from the boat. Many of the boats do not allow deco diving for insurance reasons.

Guy Harvey Dive Monday October 9th

PadiPro (Scott) heard back from S. Florida Diving HQ and they confirmed that deco on this dive is fine. They did ask us to keep total run time to 60min on this dive. As they have a few recreational divers on board, they will be doing a second, shallower dive. Scott and I are diving 28% for...

Getting HP Steel fills to rated pressure in South Florida area

Not to hijack the thread but here are a few articles, taken from links on the FE website, that discuss the case for not using a water bath when filling tanks. http://www.psicylinders.com/library/Current/wetfills.htm http://www.naui.org/pdffiles/tankfill.pdf

Getting HP Steel fills to rated pressure in South Florida area

Thought this post was about where you could get a HP tank filled to its service pressure - which Brownies can do?:D I live in Hollywood and routinely drive to FE to get my tanks filled. Cost wise, service wise, and knowledge wise, I agree, they great. Like FE, Brownies sells O2, He, and...

skewed numbers on BP, what about deco?

In the real world of deco, you will find that most everyone uses some type of computer program (i.e. - V-Planner) to plan their dives. Everyone I dive with uses V-Planner to cut tables prior to a dive. Even people I dive with that use complex Trimix computers (VR3, etc.) will still cut tables...
