    Memo Mouse?

I doubt that he is really interested in building the interface anymore since the original post is from December '08 but if anyone is interested in building the interfaces they are extremely easy to make. I have made several of the version 1 interfaces (I have a Monitor 2+ computer so making the...

Giant Squid caught in West Seattle

My oddball sighting was back around 1995 (?) seeing a Maine Lobster crawling around some of the concrete in the Edmonds Underwater park. My buddy and I got a good look at it, plus he was visiting here from the east coast for a NOAA dive class and was used to seeing lobsters in the wild back...

    Moving back to Alaska

When you get to Dutch, don't dive "freshwater Lake" if you can help it. It was pretty gross! the bottom was the consistancy of brown mucky jello and the only "life" we saw was a dead rat on the bottom. Back when I dove up there (I used to work on a NOAA ship) our policy was to check in w/...

    Alki ~ Cove 2 ~ Seacrest ~ the Office

Nice post showing all the usual suspects to be found at Alki. Has anyone been seeing any wolf eels there lately? I have seen them there on occasion, but it has been awhile since I have even been down there...

    USD Monitor 2

Don't the Monitors use the conversion for fresh water instead of salt to calculate the depth? That way it will work well in fresh water and add a smidge of conservatism in salt water. If so, then based on my faulty memory, it should be off by about a foot at about 33 feet and 3 feet or so at a...

    Pacific Electric Ray?

My only Torpedo Ray experience was on the deck of a research trawler. We trawled one up and had to dump the net on the deck. I was helping to carry the catch over to where the biologists were looking at it. I picked up the ray, one hand on each wing, and was carrying it across the deck (luckily...

    h-valve with double hose regulator

That is exactly what I did for my Aquamaster... The H-Valve that I used makes for a VERY tight fit to get the older yoke over it, but I can do it. You also need to look carefully at how you set up the valve in order to be able to fit both the two hoser and the new reg on at the same time. Hose...

Neoprene bandana, I know you're out there

I have a Viking drysuit with a latex hood and I wear a neoprene beanie I got from Campmor. I looked it up on their site and found one, but I can't remember if that is the exact same one I have. It does have a "visor" on it, but I just cut mine off. Theirs is only $10...

    Dacor Microbrain

While I know practically nothing about the Dacor computers, is it possible that the silicone kits used to do the batteries on the older Aladin and US Divers Monitor series of computer would work? You might check with shops who do those batteries and maybe they could help you.

    Cove 2 Divers Being Stupid

I agree that the Kalakala would look better on the bottom than rusting pierside. My buddy who used to volunteer on it always disagreed with me on that. It was always strange to drive around that deadmans curve in Kodiak and see it down at the bottom of the cliff. I always wanted to watch a...

    (6/10/05) Newly exploded Luxfer

My question (other than the issue with water being incompressible as has already been mentioned) is how do you get an orange rusty streak in aluminum? Aluminum oxide or aluminum "rust" is usually a whitish powdery substance isn't it?

    Aquaseal & wetsuit seam stiches

Use Seal Cement. It is made by the same people as Aqua Seal (McNett?), but is a solvent type glue. Pull the seam open a bit, spread some on, let it dry and repeat once or twice more, then stick the seam back together and let it sit for awhile. As mentioned before, I wouldn't use Aquaseal as it...

    Sugar Barge (The Regina)

Like DEbersole said, it is very weather dependent for its Vis. I would definitely be worth your the effort to call ahead and check on the vis before you drive that far. It is only a hundred yards or so off shore, and if there is any sand kicked up in the water, you will have zero vis (not 1-2...

First Dive with Uwatec SmartPro Wrist

The Null-Modem connector is a little connector that plugs into the end of your cable that swaps the position of two of the wires. It "changes" your serial cable to a modem cable. They are a common RadioShack item that costs a couple bucks. THe downside of (at least the one I used) is that meant...

First Dive with Uwatec SmartPro Wrist

A couple years ago, I made one of the simple download only interfaces (ie I can't program anything on my Uwatec with it) and then sent Matthias the Radio Shack part numbers and prices for the stuff I used, it should cost less than $10 to make. He put it up on his downloader page...

rubber better then neo or trilam

You may not be able to stop and patch, but does Duct tape stick to wet neoprene? (vs drying rubber with a rag and slapping on some tape as a very temp fix)
