    Crazy Cabbie at Edmonds!

I see I'm not the only one these Cabbie's go after. I've had them "pseudo charge" before when I was snapping pictures. They have always backed off though and only charged me when I was "in their space". I've seen the ling cod behave aggresivley when sitting on a pile of eggs. They were...

    Crazy Cabbie at Edmonds!

I did a little freediving at Edmonds Underwater Park Friday afternoon. I thought I would report a bit of strange behavior of the locals to see if anyone has had similar experience or might offer an explanation. I started dropping down on one of the boat wrecks out there. When I'm about 10...

    Issaquah Dive Shops?

I just moved back to WA from Alaska. There used to be two dive shops in Issaquah, one was "5th Dimension", I can't remember the other one. I dropped by to get a visual on some tanks and found an empty shop :( Anyone know if they moved or if there are other dive shops in the area? Thanks!

    Sharks?

You shouldn't have any trouble with lings and rock fish with scuba. Just about any speargun will do for those fish as you can get within a few feet if not inches. A pole spear would do just fine or any speargun (your midsize would be great). Salmon are a bit more difficult. Freediving is...

    Sharks?

I spearfish (freediving) out of Seward and Whittier. We've never had problems or any encounter with sharks. What type of fish are you planing to hunt?

Stingray kills 'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14663786/?GT1=8506 He came on top of the stingray and the stingray’s barb went up and into his chest and put a hole into his heart,” said Stainton, who was on board Irwin’s boat at the time.

    I'm with Marlinspike...

Too bad, although this is primarily a scuba board there are a lot of divers who are curious about freediving. Will you let the many myths and misconceptions about breath hold diving prevalent in the scuba community endure? It's nice to have a voice of reason here. That said, it seems like...

    Moving back to Alaska

We spear salmon, rock fish, ling cod, etc. Also pike in the fresh water. 30 lb pike have been reported here but I have yet to see one that big. We're also trying to figure out how to take some of those massive Alaskan halibut.

    Moving back to Alaska

There is a small group of us up here who freedive and spear quite a bit. Let me know if you're interested in freediving. For scuba, I go from time to time I have a small inflatable. There are also two shops in town that are quite active. Loic at Last Frontier Diving...

    Equipment... I'm so lost

For wetsuits, look into a custom cut wetsuit. Well worth the $, even more so for ladies. It's important that the suit fits all of those wonderful curves. An ill fitting wetsuit will be cold and uncomfortable.

Brief report on PFI class Malibu

Thanks for reporting and answering my questions! Again, congratulations on your great athletic achievements. Quite extrodinary! Hope you're enjoying the diving there, I lived in Ventura a few years ago and really miss running out to the Channel Islands for a day of diving. It's a bit more...

Brief report on PFI class Malibu

Thanks for sharing. Congratulations on those amazing stirdes with your statics! What were your primary goals when taking the class? Safety, apnea performance, technique, etc. Did they cover finning technique at all? What about Mono and no fins? Just curious, I'm considering taking the...

    Equipment... I'm so lost

I'd suggest that you invest in your exposure protection (drysuit/wetsuit) first. If you're just getting started I think that staying warm and comfortable in the water is your primary concern. Beyond that, rental wetsuits are nasty and typically poor fits. You won't be doing any "technical"...

    Some questions...

You can, but it hurts. The suit gets real pinchy. Also, there are huge boyancy changes. It's not a lot of fun unless you're doing very shallow dives (less than 30 feet).

    Some questions...

Perhaps I'm not understanding what you're after here? I'm sure you have great form Gidds, I was just suggesting that the fins are not the #1 factor in freediving? If you want to see video, search for video on "dynamic with fins" competition. You'll see a lot of varriations in finning...

    Some questions...

Any good fitting full foot freedive fin should work fine as long as the stiffness matches your leg strength. It's amazing how much energy is lost in an open heeled fin. I use gara 3000 for warm water and pool and picasso black team for cold water diving. So I recomend an affordable full...
