This is pretty sad but I'm not really surprised that it was an abernathy op that it happened to.

    Moving to Orlando!

Don't worry, it's not 3 hours to boat diving. Daytona is about 45 min to and hour away and there's plenty of boat diving there. When you get to orlando pm me or repost and we can hook up. I have a friend with a boat so you don't have to worry about $75 boat dives.

    Inexpensive boats?

I certainly don't recall saying that, and I still advocate finding a friend that has a boat and going out diving with them. There's no reason why a diver should shell out $70+ unless he or she likes the cattle experience, and many people that claim otherwise have a vested interest in getting...

    Inexpensive boats?

My advice would be to find a friend that has a boat so that you can circumvent people that want $75 a head to dive. Sure, that $75 goes towards paying for the captain's boat and gets you extra frills like divemasters and such, but you still have to contend with cattle atmosphere and a dive...

Daytona Beach Offshore Dive Report 8/5

Today we got a chance to take my friend's boat out with his new 200 hp rocket on the back. We started at reef #5 offshore from ponce inlet. The ocean was incredibly flat, and we made it to #5 in no time at all. We dropped anchor, there was barely any current at all. The first guy hit the...

Daytona Beach Offshore Dive Report 4/1

We did a few dives today offshore of Daytona Beach today, mainly to hunt. The first dive was one the mindanao, which is about 11 miles offshore. The viz was not that great, about 15 feet, and the bottom temp was 62-64 degrees. There weren't that many fish on this wreck and the current was...

    Regs vs. TRIMIX

Helium and Nitrogen still react with things. Case in point, compounds like ammonia , which is NH_3. Maybe not as violently with almost everything like oxygen does, though.

Any good diving around Daytona/New Smyrna?

Offshore daytona there are several wrecks in 80+ water. There are also lots of springs in the area, you might want to try devil's den or paradise. Devil's den is close to gainesville, and paradise is around ocala. Vero beach has bajillions of shore dives. Pick up a copy of ned deloach's guide...

    Beginner Divers on Advanced Dives?

The recent PADI trend is to do AOW immediately after OW and then to do nitrox. It does bother me a bit; I didn't do AOW until I had about 50 dives under my belt. I still dove deep with experienced divers and I was pretty fortunate to cut my diving teeth with friends that are divemasters. I dunno

    'possible relocatoin'

There are far more than 5 dive sites within an hour of deland, especially if you count the springs.

Spiegel and Duane Alternate Air Source

Speigel is a 120+ dive assuming you touch the bottom. You might also want to check the viz, the last time I did the speigel (2 weeks ago) it was 20 feet and there was lots of organic stuff in the water. I used island adventures, I don't know anything about the other ops. It was a six pack and...

    3/19 West Palm Dive Report

Today my dive buddy, his son, and I headed to do a 1:00 drift dive set with Jim Abernethy's Scuba Adventures. Dive 1: Water temp was 74 degrees, I dove with a thermal skin and a 5 mil farmer john. My buddy's son hadn't dove salt before so we had a mild shenanigans while we figured out...

    Key Largo mini-report: 3/11-12

I was down there during the same interval on a dive trip with a group. Saturday: First dive was on molasses reef. The seas were amazingly choppy with 2-3 foot seas and the surge was so rough that we spent more time trying to keep oriented and within boat range than actually looking at...

daytona beach dive report for friday, 4/22/05

My dive buddy and I hooked up with one of his friends who has a boat. We decided to skip out early on work for what might be a nice dive in salt water, as we are both sick to death of springs. Daytona's viz has been notoriously crappy as of late, and every time we schedule a dive the seas...
