gauge with big digits + seconds

Hopefully someone more DIR knowledgable can confirm and/or elaborate on this, but I don't think the seconds are really all that necessary when timing stops? (Assuming that's what you want the seconds for) My DIRF class got postponed half way through, so we didn't really get into this too...

Can you help me learn about: gas management and basic deco therory?

If you just downloaded the spreadsheet in the last 20 minutes, you might want to redownload. I just tweaked some of my numbers (ascent rate mainly) and now it jives exactly (well, within 1psi;)) with Lamont's work. Enjoy! Jason

Can you help me learn about: gas management and basic deco therory?

Here is a spreadsheet I put together a couple years ago. The results are similiar to Lamonts page, but let's you tweak the values around a bit. Rock Bottom Excel Spreadsheet

    DIR and SPG

I too ended up abondoning the 24" hose on my single tank and use a 26". The extra 2 inches made all the difference. My cavern instructor (GDI) had his spg on the inflator hose like you mentioned. I can see the merit in DIR-Atlanta's explanation above, but I have to admit it seemed like a...

    Cave/cavern safety question:

Not sure if you're taking the cavern course in singles or doubles, but I was told that there hasn't been a single reported fatality since 1968 (I think that's when NACD was founded) of a trained cavern or intro diver using a single tank. Maybe someone can elaborate on that stat a...

Can you help me learn about: gas management and basic deco therory?

I read the battle field article and it's pretty good. I found yet another reason why I like my 130's now... 130CF/3442psi = 3.78 CF/100psi (Tank Factor) Figure a .75 SCR (surface consumption rate) .75CF/Min x 5Min = 3.75CF every 5 minutes per atmosphere. So it works out close enough for...

    HID light care

Hi, I've had a 10W Terkel now for almost 2 years and 60 dives or so. I usually rinse it off at the dive site with fresh water, and disconnect the battery before I pack up to go home. Not sure how the DR switch works, but I always seem to knock my switch on if I don't unplug it. Once back at...

    Cavern with GDI

Well, despite my fears to the contrary after reading earlier course reviews, I made it through Rick's Cavern course in one piece. Jtoorish's thread below is an excellent review of the course (http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=169329 ), though I only completed the cavern portion...

    Practicing Skills

Speaking of doing skills at depth, during my cavern course I just took, many of my drills were done far back in the cavern and at max depth. On my last training dive, far back into the cavern with just a hint of light (only faintly veiwable with my light covered) at at 95FFW, my instructor...

    Blown away?

Not to gross you out, but I heard a sewage treatment plant got overloaded and dumped a load (literally) into PS? Might explain some of that slime. ;) :11: Friday at about 2am my family awoke to a thunderous crash. The next morning this is what our house looked like. Both my house (yellow)...

    The Angry Octopus video

After watching that video, one of the links took me to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA8zQw6gDNI&NR Didn't realize GPO's ate sharks!?! Eeek :)

What do you enjoy the most about your diving?

Yea I agree. I know it's a common complaint for night dives around here, but I rather like it! :) Last night I was diving Seacrest and several times a seal would hang out between me and the bottom. I'd just hover there checking him (or her, is there a way to tell?) out, literally less than a...

    How deep is the silt?

No, just curiosity. Don't worry, I have no plans to dig or deface anything. Far from it. But even within conservation of the caves, I'd imagine there has to have been some study of the silt, how deep it is, how old, etc. I guess I'm just wondering if it builds up to several feet deep, or...

    How deep is the silt?

Searching around and reading about the Florida caves, getting more and more excited about my trip down there, I ran across this picture. http://www.slps.net/slps/html/gallery/florida_caves/0041.html Which got me thinking, how deep is that silt!?! Looks like the cave could be perfectly...

    Insurance

Not sure who you're getting life insurance through, but with State Farm it didn't make any differnce getting OW certified. However, I wasn't scuba diving at the time I started the life insurance policy, but it was a question they asked. So I assume my rates would have been higher if I was...

    Cavern/Cave Intro Training with GDI

Thanks for the great post Jeff. You didn't say specifically, but did you pass both classes? It sounds like you did, which in that case, a congratulations is due too! I'm taking Cavern with Rick in a couple weeks and it's fun to read through your experiences with him! I've said it before in...

Today I became GDI's first certified diver!

Congrats Rick. Too funny, when we spoke on the phone last week you mentioned you were Canadian... well not anymore! I'm taking Rick's Cavern course in a couple weeks, and I gotta say reading these posts do make me a little scared. What am I getting myself into! :11: ;) It looks like Cavern...

good use for those old dive tables

Speaking of dive tables, I was cleaning out my garage this weekend and went through all the old dive equipment my step father gave to me a couple years back when I started out. The fine print on this says it's based on the 1973 U.S Navy Diving Manual. It appears to be sort of a mesh of...

how to stay dry in a drysuit

Yea, I had the same problem with my wrists too. I just make sure the seals are an inch or two above the actual wrist and where the "valleys" aren't too deep. Good luck! Jason
