Article: Belize's Great Blue Hole: Is It Really Worth Diving ?

I was underwhelmed with the Blue Hole in Belize when I did it a few years ago. If given a choice, I'd much rather do one of the reefs. However, some of the other divers I was with were thrilled with the Blue Hole. So, its value as a divesite is certainly subjective.

    Aeris Manta battery problems

I've had the old model for about 3 years. 2 battery changes and about 200+ dives. Usually my battery goes kaput when I get it out and play with it between trips and accidentally set an alarm that bleeps while I'm at work for several weeks unknown to me. I always check the battery a week before...

    Atomic Aquatics Cobalt Dive Computer

Thanks Ron. The main difference in the temperature reading may be due to some lag given the temperature sensor is buried. I noticed the biggest difference on the Blue Hole bounce dive. Also, when the pc interface is available, it may remove my need for the average depth calc if one exists on...

    Experiences at the Blue Hole

Just got back from Belize. Did the Blue Hole which I didn't do 4 years ago when I was there. Having done it, I can say I would rather do 2 dives on Lighthouse reef than 1 dive at the Blue Hole. Others on the liveaboard thought the dive was great and a big adrenaline rush. It really just...

    Atomic Aquatics Cobalt Dive Computer

I just got back from a week of liveaboard diving in Belize with my new Cobalt. I really like diving with this computer. The screen is really easy to read -- especially at depth which is really apreciated by a 50 something diver. I also appreciated the very intuitive interface. I would like...

    Buying cheap Regulator Set??

No one has asked the OP what he/she plans to do diving wise. If he just wants to do warm water diving a couple of times a year, a "value" regulator may be just fine. I personally bought a value Tusa set with dive computer on a console which has worked fine for 300+ warm Carribean dives. If I...

Anyone uses 5mm suit on Roatan in Sept?

We just got back 9/12 from Roatan. My wife wore a 5mil and hood and was comfortable for 25 dives (water temp 85F)-- she also wore a drysuit there last January. I wore a skin (actually 3 different ones because its nice to always have a dry skin to put on). It all depends on your own personal...

Range in Number of Liveaboard Dives?

You can usually do 5 a day. Ocassionally, I'll skip a dive, so about 22 dives in a week (5 1/2 days of diving) for me.

    Nekton Rorqual 7/25/09 - 8/1/09

All these threads make me want to book a $999 October trip to St Croix just to see if its that bad. I definitely enjoyed my trip to Belize on the Pilot 2 years ago. I never considered the Nekton a luxury liner, but, it had easy diving and decent food so it met my needs.

We Loved CCV, Roatan - What else might we like?

If it wasn't such a long flight from CA, I'd say Divi Flamingo in Bonaire. You can get your 2 boat dives in and the house reef (which is a nice dive) is just a giant stride off the dock where your gear locker is. Virtually any other dive on Bonaire (excluding Klein Bonaire - the little island...

    CCV - Photography Instruction?

I thought someone might take offense to my post after I read it --there was a rant that probably shouldn't have been included. My tip(s) is just be aware of you surroundings and work on great bouyancy (motionless hoovering). This will allow you to get close to your subjects which is the real...

    CCV - Photography Instruction?

Hey train_ga, Friendly Reminder: As you learn to use your new rig, please be especially cognizant about not harming the coral. I'm not saying you won't be, but, I've seen a lot of photographers trash coral to get a picture when they could find about 20 "better" photos with a google search...

Nekton - Cal Sal Bank (anyone been?)

LOL, Its also hard to get 5 dives a day and 3 meals in each day in Cozumel. Much easier on the Nekton. However, either place sounds good to me since I'm looking at about 4" of snow right now.

Am I being unreasonable if I believe that...

This has always been one of my pet peeves. I can't count the number of times I've witnessed people with poor buoyancy control damage the reef to take a picture -- or swim into me while I'm hovering. On the other hand, I've also witnessed some of the most amazing buoyancy control/underwater...

Do I Need a Wetsuit in Hawaii?

I was in Kauai last September and wore a core warmer and felt a "little" chill near the end of my dives (3 days of diving). I usually only wear a skin in the Carribean -- even on liveaboards in December. My wife, otoh, wore a hood and 5mm and still got chilled -- but she always does. She'll...

Kauai Dive Report From New Hawaiian Diver

My wife and I just returned from our first trip to Kauai, so, I'll add my thoughts as a new Hawaiian diver to this thread. We did 2 2-tank morning boat dives and the Ni'ihau 3-tank trip with Fathom Five. We would not hesitate to dive with Fathom Five again. Before this trip, we both had just...

    Drysuit fins.

Tusa sf-5xt fit very nice with size 9 alteras (my wife's). The pocket seems much more forgiving that some of the others I've seen and may work with 10.5s. I've never dove them but she really likes them and their stiffness for frog kicking. Also, they're nice looking fins. (I've got fin envy)...

    Zeagle Brigade - weight pockets

I dive without them (over 200 dives in a Brigade) and have no problems. If I ever have to ditch weights, finding the weights later will be way down my list of priorities. However, FWIW, I do think the yellow pouches would be nice to have.
