    Conch Republic and/or Silent World

Just dove with Silent World yesterday. Excellent op. Took us out a little farther to find good vis, and they did at the Elbows. Minor chop on top, but not a prob. Some nice critters. Thought I got some nice shots of them, but my el cheapo Snapsights camera finally flooded.

    Well this sux

Amazing what a couple cups of coffee and a Sharky's breakfast Grande Burrito does for one's constitution Truley a miracle. Feel so good I went ahead and booked a dive this afternoon with Silent World just up the road. Last seat on the boat. See ya'll tonite at Sharkys.

    Well this sux

Cool! I doubt I'll be doing much drinking, but I'll be there. In the mean time, we're off to eat breakfast, and check out some local stuff, and a few dive shops of course.

    Well this sux

First morning in Key Largo Holiday Inn, it's warm, I'm looking off of my balcony at the dive boats getting ready for the day, and me and my wife are SICK! Made a huge mistake in stopping to eat at some seafood dive just north of Ocala. Went on to spend the night at her mothers house in Cocoa...

    Key Largo Next week

Rescuediver, an old trick I learned when I was a kid was, as soon as your stomach starts rolling, find something stationary to stare at, like the shore, or even a cloud. I Don't know why it works, but it does for me. Gotta go for now. Seeya.

    Key Largo Next week

Hey Danman, Silent world looks to be a good op too. I'll take them mid 70's anyday!

    Key Largo Next week

I hear ya, but it's just six lbs. And the day I can't lift six lbs, well, I'd pretty much not belong in the water anymore IMO. If it came down to that, I can ditch the entire rig in a heartbeat. Last time I dove salt water I dove with six lbs on my belt, which worked fine. But I couldn't keep...

    Key Largo Next week

That's what I was figuring, which might present a slight problem for me. I did a little experimenting in a pool working on my bouyancy, and shoved six lbs of 1lb ingots into my shoulder straps. So with an AL80, I can now hover perfectly. So I went ahead and glued them in permanently. Otoh, it...

    Key Largo Next week

Hey Rescue Diver, I'll be there sometime the 29th. As of yet I haven't booked any dives. Are you booked on Ocean Divers the 30th? 31st? One thing kinda bugs me a little. I saw some reviews on them, and somebody was complaining about their steel tanks and that they were only filled to...

    Gear envy...what's yours?

    A long hose.

    Callin major BS

Here's my expert opinion on coral: I like the red ones, and the yeller ones. They really set off the blue background. I don't like the white ones, with the greenish tint. Hey Nemrod, do you have any more links detailing that Permian Reef? Especially graphics? Reason I ask is because I lived...

What do YOU enjoy about diving?

True :cool2: But...it was 0230, my Keurig hadn't quite filled my first cup, and I needed something to b**** about.

I have no idea what kind of coral it was, but he was testing a theory about the Great Barrier Reef, postulating that the reef has been previously killed and reborn several times by ice ages. He was reasoning that during the ice ages, the sea levels dropped as much as 450 ft, exposing and killing...

Didn't see any spare airs. And they both had short primary hoses...:D My NAUI chart maxes out at 8 minutes @ 130 ft. Anything deeper and I have to deco for five minutes @ 15'. Do the Navy charts show NDLs for deeper dives than this? (Not that I'd ever be interested in trying...) I'm sure...

I was watching a show called Wild Pacific this morning, and these guy's dive plan was to dive to 190' to collect a sample of coral from that depth. Then they giant strided off the boat with what looked like a single AL80 strapped on. No Nitrox, extra bottles or other gases evident. Then they...

    conditions question

Garrabo, thanks! And yes I dove Key Largo before, and I agree. The best diving in the states. But the weather just happened to be perfect, blue skies, calm seas, so the question of what their dive call limits are wasn't an issue. But it looks like this time it might be an issue. I has a dive...

    conditions question

I'm due to show up in Key Largo the 29th and be in the area a couple weeks, and I was just looking at the marine forecast down there. Looks like for the next week or so the swells will be running around "4-6 ft outside the reef and 2-3 ft inside the reef". And I'm wondering what is the typical...

Not understanding the short hose thing

Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me D_B. I thought the things were just coming apart at the swivel joint. And good point about handing my reg off with a ninety degree fitting. Would make grasping the hose pretty awkward. But wouldn't a swivel pose the same problem?
