Juliet Liveaboard to Bahamas Nov 2-8

DD, I think this will be an excellent first live-aboard experience for your nieces. Hopefully everyone is OK with being low maintenance for a week :D I am a very light sleeper so it took me a couple nights to get used to falling asleep on the boat and getting a good nights rest. Melatonin...

Ikelite DS51 Diffusers - Difficulty Staying On

I have a DS51 strobe for my Olympus TG-5 rig and I have already lost a diffuser on my penultimate dive trip and on my most recent dive trip, the replacement started to separate and float off (luckily I caught it and stuffed in my my wetsuit!) after 10 dives. Has anyone come up with a DIY...

New Ikelite Dome for TG-5 Ikelite Housings - Any Reviews?

OK it has been a while but I have some photos to share from shooting with the dome. I tried to pick out a good mix, showing that wide angle and macro is definitely possible with this product.

    Turks Caicos in October

I dove a week with Dive Provo. Nothing but good things to say about their dive operation. Saw sharks and (heard) dolphins on almost every dive. They book up fast so don't be a walk-in.

Juliet Liveaboard to Bahamas Nov 2-8

More good questions. 1. No shore excursions. I heard some talk about a Bimini visit option from some guests, however Hurricane Dorian messed up the Bimini Bay harbor/marina entry depth and Liza (Captain) mentioned that we would run the risk of running aground. That wasn't a big issue since we...

Juliet Liveaboard to Bahamas Nov 2-8

Good follow up questions! I will answer them in order. You had the opportunity to dive 19 dives during that week. We boarded Saturday midday and had an overnight crossing to arrive in Bimini on Sunday Morning. Sunday - Wednesday: 4 dives per day (2 morning, one afternoon, one night) Thursday: 3...

Juliet Liveaboard to Bahamas Nov 2-8

My wife and I recently completed a Bahamas trip on the Juliet which departed November 2 - 8. It was a wonderful and truly memorable experience! We dove twice in the morning, did one afternoon dive, and one night dive every day (except the last day which omitted the night dive). Dive sites varied...

New Ikelite Dome for TG-5 Ikelite Housings - Any Reviews?

Just got back from my liveaboard and need a few weeks to cull and edit my photos. I am thoroughly pleased with my Ikelite dome lens! I brought along the OEM macro lens that came with the housing but didn’t end up switching it out at any point. There was a lot of megafauna (sharks and turtles)...

New Ikelite Dome for TG-5 Ikelite Housings - Any Reviews?

Thread revival! I acquired the Ikelite dome (air) lens and I am about to go on a liveaboard to the Bahamas. I will be posting a "review" when I return.

New Ikelite Dome for TG-5 Ikelite Housings - Any Reviews?

I have been shooting with my TG-5 on a couple of dive trips so far and I love it. I predominantly use it for fish portraits and macro shots of tiny shrim and nudis. I was less than impressed with the FOV with megafauna like reef shark flybys, but that only constituted like 10% of the photos I...

Made the Jump from GoPro to TG-5: Welcoming Any Advice

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply, I haven't logged into SB in quite a while! I have an Ikelite ball and arm tray setup. It was quite a pretty penny, but I like it a lot! For a flash, I have an Ikelite DS-51. Wide Angle Ball Arm for Quick Release Handle Tray with Dual Quick Release Handles...

Blue Heron Bridge - Creature ID?

Guys, I am not sure if there is a specific sub forum here for Fish/Creature ID, but I figure I would try for where it was found. I was doing some macro shots at Blue Heron Bridge when I came across what I thought was a tunicates that was acting strangely. I took a quick photo and upon further...

How to Avoid "Guided" Dives? I don't need/want my hand held.

For pretty much every dive trip I have been on with my wife that has in-water guides provided, we just demonstrate good practices, buoyancy control, air consumption, navigation, spotting neat creatures for everyone else, etc on the first dive. It pretty much lets the guides know that you know...

    Olympus TG-5 Lenses

The standard built-in lens is OK for those purposes. When you get to something bigger like sharks, manatees, dolphins, etc, you will want to invest in a wide angle lens because you will need to get close to have your lights illuminate the subject, but still have the whole animal in frame.

Strobe vs Video light for TG-5

Honestly, you can't go wrong with SOLA video lights! If you end up going with a strobe, they make a perfectly good night dive light!

Made the Jump from GoPro to TG-5: Welcoming Any Advice

It looks like the best option is to ensure that you are zoomed out fully when doing video of a moving subject.

Strobe vs Video light for TG-5

As someone who has just used both on a dive trip. Strobes are trickier to work with but have much more dramatic/professional looking photos. They are also bigger/clunkier which can get in the way of getting a macro shot without disturbing other life/environment. A video light on a loc-line flex...

How is the TG-5 with photographing big stuff?

It's OK...I am definitely seeing the limitations with manatees or sharks coming at the camera. You definitely want to have the wide angle (wet) lens and 2 strobes for that.

Made the Jump from GoPro to TG-5: Welcoming Any Advice

Recently got back from the Florida diving trip and currently editing photos. Flash is definitely a LOT trickier to use and master, which required a lot of "guess and check" shots. When you get it just right though, the results are very rewarding!
