    Who trained these idiots??

That's a ballsy move to be lobstering at Oil Slick since it is located AT the STINAPA headquarters! Do remember that lobstering is legal on Bonaire from November 1 to April 30, so if it was during that period it was OK. As always, some folks think that the rules don't necessarily apply to...

    Who trained these idiots??

It's my understanding that STINAPA has invited this group to never visit Bonaire again. The names as noted earlier in the thread appear to be correct. They seem to live in the Oklahoma/Texas area (there are always a few bad apples!), but don't hold that against the rest of us. Indications in...

Practicality of swapping wet lenses underwater

Actually, I do use the 165's with the Zen port, that is my favorite all-around set up. 14-42 lens behind the Zen dome port and then use the Inon lenses in the Oly holder. If you put one on it is a perfect "portrait" lens. With both you can take super-macro shots. The only thing I had to do was...

General Questions for first timer to Bonaire

Susan Porter's "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy" (BSDME) is a very handy book to have on your first trip. Since last fall there is also a new book (available at Dive Friends Bonaire) called "Dive Guide Bonaire". It is available in English and in Dutch. Excellent book, lots of great information...

    Current water temp in Bonaire?

It has been 80 degrees on my computer for a week or so. We are finally having the "rainy season" this week it seems so temps could drop another degree with the cool rains.

    Help picking a strobe

There are several options, but I have only used Inon's. I have a D-180 and a D2000, both are great and I recommend them. The S2000 is a little smaller so that could be a good option.

    Olympus OM-D port and the 9 - 18mm lens

I use the 9-18 and 14-42 lenses on my E-PL2 in the Oly housing. I have both the stock Oly flat port and the Zen dome. 90% of the time I use the 14-42 behind the Zen dome along with a pair of Inon 165 macro lenses in the Oly 67mm holder. 5% of the time is with the 9-18 and Zen dome and 5% with...

Practicality of swapping wet lenses underwater

I spent a lot of years using Inon stacked macro lenses and an Inon WA on my Oly 5060. You get used to the weight and small hassle of carrying them around and screwing them on an off (I had the 67mm thread versions). It does offe great flexibility to be able to potentially shoot whatever comes up...

    PT-EP03 Port O-rings

Has anyone else had a problem with the stock Olympus port o-rings, for lack of a better term, sucking? When I received the housing new they were installed in the flat port and worked fine. I bought the Zen dome and the first time I removed the Oly port I noticed the o-ring grooves are very wide...

General Questions about the Bonaire Invasion

FYI, there are some grocery stores easily within walking distance of Plaza, closer than walking to town. If you have a truck then there is definitely no problem. Both Warehouse and Van den Tweel are not too far and a smaller store called Sunshine as well. There are scooter rentals available...

    Desiccant packs.......or not?

I'm not sure about the clothes smelling thing, but the air coming directly out of an air conditioner is definitely less humid than the ambient humidity within a room. It's just part of the physics involved in cooling the air. Thus, while the air conditioner is on, the relative humidity of the...

    Desiccant packs.......or not?

I have been messing around with this underwater photo thing for 6 or 7 years now. I have always been a vacation diver like most folks so every dive was mission critical and I did not want to miss a shot. I always have put in fresh batteries every couple of dives in the strobes and camera. I...

    Lionfish on the menu....

They had a lionfish tasting event last Friday night at Bistro de Paris. WOW! It was all very good, the cerviche, fried, pancakes (yes, really pancakes) but the smoked lionfish was to die for.....at least the lionfish did. We had some fried filets for dinner this evening.....excellent!

    Lionfish on the menu....

Yesterday was a new, unique experience. I shot a lionfish with my ELF, just a small one, maybe 4" long. i pulled it back out from under the coral head where it was hiding. I was getting ready to pull out the knife to finish it off and was planning to drop it on the sand to let something scavenge...

Flying after diving interval when leaving on the early Continental flight

I use the 18 hour rule when I'm on Bonaire. When I think back to the old days (30 plus years ago) and the things we did.....and didn't explode or die. Diving today is a lot more conservative so I am sure we are all much safer.

List of what lenses work with which ports on oly housing.

The Zen dome port works just fine with the 14-42 and the Oly adapter and 67MM macro lens, even with two stacked macro lens. You just have to put a little strip os the "fuzzy" side of velcro on the top and bottom of the lens shade on the Zen dome because it is a little smaller diameter than the...

    epl1 setup help

As you enter the money pit we call underwater photography, there will be no end to the "here's what you need next" suggestions. We all have our favorite things. I am finding that the set up I like best right now for my E-PL2 is the 14-42 kit lens behind the Zen dome port. It gives you a true 24...

Bonaire, What did you wish you knew before you went?

The change to a "Dutch special municipality" on 10-10-10 didn't change the smoking habits and didn't bring any more Dutch people there......they have always been there.......and they always smoke! It's a Euro thing for sure. I am amazed that they don't all die from lung cancer when you see them...
