GoPro red filter - PolarPro vs SRP vs Backscatter

The SRP certainly has the best color correction but is also usually the most expensive, I had one for a HERO2. I haven't had any experience with the Backscatter, so I'm impartial to it's quality but find the whole multiple flipping filters idea very unnecessary. As of the Polar Pro, just stay...

Video Light recommendation for go pro hero 4

I also own a D11V. They are a good bang for the buck. Make sure you get good rechargeable batteries for it, the cheaper batteries won't last more than a few minutes. Whatever lights you choose, keep in mind that at this price range, the reach of the lights is limited to just a few feet from the...

    Hero4 session

I've only found Chinese made third-party dive housings. Did GoPro make their own? I'd be concerned using a chinese housing for obvious reasons - typically lower quality and no warranty if your camera floods. The HERO3/3+/4 are so small already, they can be mounted anywhere these could be...

When shooting macro video with light, do you need a filter?

This was shot at about 10-15m (30-50 ft) in clear water on a sunny day. Here are a few screen caps without the filter on the first dive - because I too felt like it wouldn't be necessary but was wrong. You are correct about the video light, it was a small 180 lumens (60 deg) torch, so it doesn't...

When shooting macro video with light, do you need a filter?

There is no real advantage in having both, both it does no harm - if your light emits a white bean, which most LED torches do. The advantage for me is that there is still some degree of color correction on background objects (not reached by the light), but keep in mind the deeper and further...

    Red Filter for Hero

There were a few and probably there is still a couple (all internal), but it doesn't make any sense to filter the domed port, the out-of-focus issue of the original housing is considerable (see image below). That's why no manufacturer invested in making an external red filter for a camera that...

    Storage on the go

The phone's USB port probably won't have power to feed an external hard drive. You might need a powered USB hub or a drive that is powered on an outlet (usually the not-so-compact models). MicroSD's prices are just so low now ($11 for a 32gb samsung card) that a small card reader might be a...

    Go Pro Retractor

It's a 24 inches cable, not 24 feet - If I can manage to tangle a 24" line, I better watch out for all the straps and buckles on my BCD too, they too can get tangled. If that is to ever happen - which haven't happened in the last 50+ dives using it, including a few wrecks and caverns, simply...

    Go Pro Retractor

I use one of these below, the 24" is long enough to loop through the BDC's "D" ring and still be long enough to extend my arm. It attaches to the camera's bolt, like in the picture below. (link here)

Pulling still photos from GoPro footage - Hero3+ results

Scaled down a bit, but taken on burst mode (photo). No lights and no post editing, just red filter:

Pulling still photos from GoPro footage - Hero3+ results

They look sharp scaled down, specially those with dive lights, but still very pixelated/grainy when looking at the full resolution frame grab.. When the framing is right, I prefer switching to the burst photo mode and giving it a go. Out of 10 photos, 1-2 come out ok.

What do you guys think about using hands free camera/ lighting mounts?

I also keep my BCD on a mannequin in the middle of my living room.

Lights or no lights? Manta ray dive...

Nick, they come on a little cardboard folder thingy. Not very protective if you're going to toss it on your bag. When I travel, I keep mine inside the cardboard thing inside a little plastic box with other stuff (anti fog inserts, extra o-rings, battery for the gopro and for my light, etc.)...

To light or not.... Some help please

Lights are not a must, you can get great results with a red filter only if not too deep, the visibility is good and the filter is decent. Here is a link of a video I made in Indonesia without lights, I am yet to see any other video out there with colors that pop this much - a combination of...

Lights or no lights? Manta ray dive...

A filter is usually better than no filter, depending on which filter it is. Made in China generic or PolarPro? Better without a filter in those cases.

Buying a new or used GoPro video camera?

Nothing wrong with the older models, I still have a HERO2 that works great and the image quality is very satisfactory. The problem of buying an used camera from eBay is that you really don't know what the camera has been through. The battery can be replaced easily and it's cheap, but the...

    Gopro Hero red filter needed!!

What is the "HERO basic model"? A HERO with the housing like the one below? If yes, keep in mind that this housing will NOT focus underwater, regardless of adding a filter. As a friend described, it's like putting lipstick on a pig. They are still ugly after all. The solution used to be a...

Using Rain X on housing lens?

Ah for that I wouldn't even bother with Rain-X, unless you have a bottle laying around at home. I use the good old "spit and dunk" method, just like a dive mask.

Using Rain X on housing lens?

You won't get water drops on the lens underwater.
