I was with Rainbow Reef, too. What a great experience! They're a really great operator.

Liveaboards on a Budget- a Possibility?

Bumping this- I've since dove Key Largo and Cozumel. But this thread is still a gold mine! My CZM trip got cut a little short, and I've got some time, so dropping it to a liveaboard is just what the doc ordered.

Video I shot: The Reefs of Cozumel

Thanks John. Glad you enjoyed it.

    Worst of Cozumel.

Skeeters were bad last week. Cold and rainy, and the restaurants really seemed out to gouge tourists. Otherwise it was pretty damned sweet. I only wish my diving hadn't been cut short by a bronchitis.

Ogres: Have Layers. Parfaits- layers. Wetsuits- layers? Key Largo in March...

I've been diving in all week in a 5mm Neosport X-Span suit. 5mm booties, 3mm gloves. I pick up a little bit of the coolness while the water soaks into the suit for the first time, but today I was down to 104 feet under the landing pad of the Spiegel Grove and I stayed warm enough. It seems...

Exactly how tight should a wetsuit be?

Good point on the water access points. I was considering trimming my 5mm around the neck, but I think I'm going to dive once or twice with it first and see how it shakes out. My instructor pointed out that I needed to remember my body posture in a neutral buoyancy horizontal posture before I...

Exactly how tight should a wetsuit be?

I actually went and returned the 3/2 suit. It was just too big. Compared to the fit of my shorty, it was like wearing an old sock that wouldn't stay up. I had my local dive instructor check the fit on the 5mm. He says it's perfect, so it's just my unfamiliarity with it that raised my...

Exactly how tight should a wetsuit be?

Good point on the cold. I think the 5mm is alright for fit. I think I may keep the 3/2 as I got a bargain on it, and in 80+ degree water I'm more concerned about contact injury with wildlife and bottom elements, so I wouldn't mind a little bit of flow in the suit. ---------- Post added...

Exactly how tight should a wetsuit be?

    Thanks, Pete! Best answer yet.

Exactly how tight should a wetsuit be?

I kinda figured that. The warm water 3/2 suit doesn't really have to be a skin tight fit- but the tighter I can manage is better with thicker, cold water suits?

Exactly how tight should a wetsuit be?

In an odd twist of fate, I now have a 2 full body wetsuits- a 3/2 in an XXXL and and 5mm in XXL. I'm 6'2" and 225 lbs. Big dude. SO anyways- the 3/2 is just a little loose in the armpits, and when I lean forward, bunches up a little bit around the torso. There's just a tiny bit of gap...

Thanks again, all. I've gotten my hands on a 5mm full suit. I'm going to take that and dive that. I'm sure I'll stay toasty with it.

Ogres: Have Layers. Parfaits- layers. Wetsuits- layers? Key Largo in March...

Thanks for all the insight, everybody. I tried everything on the other day- I think I'm going to wear the shorty as an under, then the full as an over. The full is a neosport XSpan and is super stretchy. Would a rash guard make a difference? Or would I be better off with a better under...

What's the word on Cozumel spots? Blue Angel Resort? Scuba Club Cozumel?

Thanks for all the continued feedback, everybody. As far as the trip plan goes, I'm looking for the following: * A safe, reputable dive operator that will run quality trips, with guides. Several of our divers are very experienced but I'm not letting the diving be run from inside the group...

Ogres: Have Layers. Parfaits- layers. Wetsuits- layers? Key Largo in March...

Hey all. Looking to do some winter diving off Key Largo next month. Upon suggestion of others, I went out to get myself a 5mm full wetsuit. This would be beyond my 3/2mm shorty. After beating the bushes and some other nonsense, I've gone a slightly different route... I got a nice new 3/2mm...

What's the word on Cozumel spots? Blue Angel Resort? Scuba Club Cozumel?

Excellent points. Thanks, all. Sounds like something to be said for either place. It'll probably come down to economics, but we'll see.

What's the word on Cozumel spots? Blue Angel Resort? Scuba Club Cozumel?

Thanks for the feedback, all. I have a friend who's stayed at SCC. His only complaint was that the beds are hard as rocks. I hear that's kinda a standard down there. I travel to Mexico on business and rarely find a soft mattress. How does Cozumel stack up against Playa Del Carmen? I'm not...

What's the word on Cozumel spots? Blue Angel Resort? Scuba Club Cozumel?

Hey all, I'm planning a trip with some friends in the fall for Cozumel. At first blush, it looks like Scuba Club Cozumel and Blue Angel Resort both look promising. Anybody have any recent experience with them? Or an other leads that they can share? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Liveaboards on a Budget- a Possibility?

Hey all. I'm a relatively new diver looking to better grasp my range of destinations. I've generally found that for around $1300 to $2000 you can spend a solid week falling off the back of the boat along with a hotel and 3 squares in a variety of places (not including air fare, at least). Are...
