I understand completely. 1. Protecting the little that is left from asshats and too much traffic. And 2. Darm straight. Keep it to yourself.
I found an unmarked site a while back that no one, not even the dive shops, know anout. It's pristing and you actually think I'm going to give directions...
I always pay with PayPal. If something like this happens (it did to me with Wetpixel) you get your money and the cancelling agency has no recourse. Saved me about $9000.
For the price of those tanks large enough to actually be usable you could get certified, set up a couple of 19 cf (actual SCUBA) tanks with H2Odyssey valve & 1st stage regs and have no problem getting them filled or filling them yourself with the yoke adapter and have a reasonable amount of time...
And that never happens? Either by wandering too far or being pushed somewhere you didnt intend by unexpected current? Or so many other things. What is most likely to kill you is the unthinkable.
Couple of vids to give you an idea what CCV was like two weeks 2016 (most likely declined since then). Poor vis, few and small marine life, plastic in the water everywhere. And boy scout camp food.
After a near death experience in very high chop, one of my absolute rules is to decide if I can make a long surface swim on snorkel in the surface conditions. From your description I would not have splashed. Moreover, you should have aborted the entire venture having been switched from beach...
Until I can no longer safely dive. I'm 77 and have gotten to the point where cold water diving in enough neoprene to stay warm is difficult and exhausting. So, I got a couple 19 cf ponys and rigged them to clip onto a belt so I can wear a 3mm and monkey dive shallow. I still plan on shore diving...
Having once very nearly drowned from a boat dive in the Keys I came up with a set of strict personal rules. They may seem draconian, but they would have kept me from a near death experience.
SCUBA Rules
You are always diving solo no matter how many divers are in the water, or how many buddies...
Can you rebuild it and would you trust it for anything except suit inflation?
I rebuild mine regularly and trust them to rec depths for a soft, calm, relaxed swim to the surface. The valve/1st stage is rock solid and is a staple for alternate independant air sources. I regularly use mine to do...
Here's what I use. Economical and there is nothing more compact. Valve and 1st stage in one very small package. On my 6 cf and then the unit alone. I got rid of the 6 cf and now have two 19 cf's set up this way.
H2Odyssey RG2V
Standard piston first stage
On/Off valve
2 low pressure ports & 1...
You are always diving solo no matter how many divers are in the water, or how many buddies you have, or what certifications they have, or how much experience they have, or what you discussed during the dive plan, or how well they are equipped.
Have a 6 cf pony so you can find and get to the...
Instruction is fine. But, my local club went down the tubes because it provided almost no diving activities/opportunities. Monthly meetings, an occasional speaker, maybe one diving activity a year, and a possible trip (which ended up mostly social & dfrinking - diving was definitely secondary)...
Nope - not saying it is. I agree - can't blame the resort. But it is something to take into consideration. It's part of the trip no matter whose fault. And it is agony.
I stand by my post. Getting through the airport to the waiting area was hell. Same for leaving. CCV did nothing. Getting my bags? BFD - big deal. They didn't even show up for transport to CCV till almost an hour after we got to the waiting area.
It's well known that you are a fan boy for CCV. I...
