Shoulder Inflator tearing away from wing

Have been away from SB for a while but wanted to update. I sent the wing back to DiveRite and they replaced it with a new one. Great service. I never used the pull dump. I extend the hose and deflate. Upon surfacing I was fully inflating the wing to drain the water from between the cover and...

Shoulder Inflator tearing away from wing

I have had my Travel Wing for approx 18 months now and I have maybe 300 dives on it. The shoulder inflator is tearing through the wing shell and it's obviously not long for this world. Has this problem been seen before and is there a fix? I was hoping to get my lady the same wing as the size is...

    Maldives in October

June /July should be monsoon winds from the SW so if looking at a resort for easier access to diving spots, aim for the eastern side of an atoll. That said, more adventurous diving can be had on the western sides... but if the ocean swell is too great you may have trouble getting out to the...

    fatality in Maldives

The big delay here seemed to have been an insurance check- perhaps timezone made a difference. I'm surprised that many divers (who can afford to dive internationally) do not get internationally accepted DAN insurance at less than $200/year.

Trilingual and NEW to Scuba! Wants to travel and work, but where to go?!?

Working in the diving industry usually means having professional-level certifications. You may be able to find work in a retail shop somewhere. German is a big diving language but IME there is not much demand for Spanish outside of Spanish speaking countries where it is useful for communication...

    Photography/underwater photography tutorials?

There's no such thing as a free lunch- I haven't found anything free on the internet on what you're asking. My advice: Pony up for Martin Edge's book. You can get it 2nd hand on Amazon for about $20.

Any suggestions on how to keep my ears from becoming infected?!

I've worked with a few instructors now that use the PRO-EAR. As you can see, it looks pretty interesting.

Spare Air – The Best Item in Your Scuba Toolbox

Unfortunately Spare Air is marketed towards beginners as a good diving/buddy substitute. Many divers however also become lax on buddy protocol and or are diving solo/photo (same thing IME). Again for the experienced diver, I believe it is enough to surface at a slower rate than one could achieve...

    Slight free flow above water

Fairly normal thing to happen as the soft seat takes a groove. The hard seat creates an imprint a bit like your fingernail biting in to your skin. Yo need to tighten the adjustment screw a quarter turn or so.

What's the diving in Wakatobi and surrounds like?

October having been and gone, this is a tad late but the latter part of the year almost guarantees dry weather and flat seas. It also conincides with (surprise, surprise) Wakatobi's high season. There are generally more critters around as the sea transitions from the colder temperatures towards...

Maldives Aggressor- VERY BAD EXPERIENCE- If you have a scheduled trip read this!

The Constellation fleet run by Alex Bryant consistantly comes back with solid reviews. I would seriously consider them for your liveaboard choice. https://www.facebook.com/constellationfleetmaldives I also know a couple who direct on the MV Leo.

    Job opportunities in Maldives?

acsomos has said it all really, but to add: Opportunities arise but you need a bit of luck. Most dive teams are small as in 4-6 instructors which cover a range of European languages and (depending on marketing) Asian languages. Some dive centers employ only couples... however some explicitly...

    Experience as a trainee divemaster

It's not normal IMO. A little help goes a long way- there may have been a time issue but the instructor sounds like a bit of a prick. That's not normal either.... well it shouldn't be normal. Some instructors have no idea how to actually instruct. Teaching 'naturals' to dive is easy- the hard...
