    All about Halcyon wings

Bengiddins- No wonder your backplate detached from your wing if you were using a "slightly longer" version of the storage pack bolt! There does not seem to be a good way to tighten these up at all, unless you maybe glue the flat sided part so it will not spin! Dave

    All about Halcyon wings

FredT, I have some of the blue Loktite and some of the primer, already, so, this may be the best, quick solution. On the other hand, the tinkerer in me is thinking about drilling a hole about 3/16" from the end of each bolt, so I can insert a cotter/safety pin. This may be overkill...

    All about Halcyon wings

I bow to your obviously superior knowledge and insight, oh great O-ring.... After reading your suggestion about the wingnuts, I scrounged around in the plastic peanuts once again, and lo and behold, what did I find but the prophesied very small bag containing TWO properly long and sturdy bolts...

    All about Halcyon wings

Stapled to my storage pack there was a ziplok bag containing 8 short bolts with eight flat-headed threaded tubes to engage the bolts. Since I believe the storage pack looked like it only took 6 bolts, I assumed that the other two were for mounting the wing. As Bengiddins (above) mentioned, I...

    All about Halcyon wings

I just got a brand new Halcyon MC set up today for my wife. It came with a 36# pioneer wing, SS backplate, etc. The problem I'm having is that the bolts (8 of them) supplied with the unit do not seem to be long enough to bolt through the top hole grommet of the wing, then through the grommet...

What is the problem with plastic buckles?

On several posts, I have seen discussion from people who have had broken fastex plastic buckles, or have had buckles come undone. When (if) I ever get my ACB pockets from Halcyon, I will be a little paranoid about the small (~1") retainer buckles that hold the weights in the pockets. Don't...

Alternatives to plastic fas-tex side-release buckles

Thanks for the replies. HOWEVER, I am talking about the smaller (1"?) fas-tex buckle that holds the Halcyon ACB weight belt pockets closed, NOT the big main buckle that holds a normal weight belt to your waist. The large SS weight belt main buckles are easy to find. I have not found...

Alternatives to plastic fas-tex side-release buckles

Many discussions can be found on this board about the potential for failure inherent in the common, plastic, Fas-Tex-type side-release buckle. I asked this question in another thread, in relation to this type buckle being used on the Halcyon ACB weight system. The two problems I think I...

DUI Weight and Trim II (WT2) vs. Halcyon ACB

Sorry about the mis-spelling, Mr. Bengiddins! Mine gets butchered all the time, too. I guess I'll just have to try the ACB's myself whenever they arrive. I have had some on order for a month now, but still waiting.... I was hoping I could pop the weights in the pockets while I was seated...

DUI Weight and Trim II (WT2) vs. Halcyon ACB

Thanks for the replies, so far. Bengiddens: Is it pretty easy to stuff the weights into the ACB pouches when you have your BP on, and are sitting down, for example, in a boat? I would be using around 10# per side. Uncle Pug: I have had some correspondence with Heath. Thanks for the...

DUI Weight and Trim II (WT2) vs. Halcyon ACB

On another thread about the Halcyon ACB, someone mentioned the DUI WT2 weighting system. I have an order into Halcyon for an ACB, but the more I read on this board, the more I think it might be better to have weights separate from my BC. Sounds like the combined weight of my Halcyon Pioneer...

    U/W Emergencies...please contribute your experience

On one of my OW cert. dives, my rented BC inflator valve stuck in the open position while I was down. My instructor had not covered this contingency yet, but it seemed that the logical thing to do was to disconnect my LP inflator hose and vent air out of the BC. I guess I rose about 10 feet...

Who Wears A Snorkel When Diving ?

I have always worn one, but I find them to be a darn nuisance 95% of the time. Am considering discontinuing, or maybe storing in pocket, just in case I need it. Habits are hard to break. I haven't yet been in the situation when I have completely run out of air and am having to wait on the...

Thanks! Interesting link on shark attack statistics. I think I will continue to maintain my distance from nurse sharks. Dave

    Nurse Shark Encounters

I just got back from several days of diving in the Gulf of Mexico (out of Pensacola, FL). On our last day, we encounterd our 1st shark ever. It was a ~9' nurse shark, and it was just sitting quietly on the sandy bottom, tucked into a depression next to the side of a wreck (Navy Camel barge)...

    Best diving in Pensacola area?

Hi, I too, am going to be in Pensacola in June, and would like to spend a few days diving. Would appreciate any comments/suggestions about where to go/ what to see/ best dive operators. etc. Destin is not too far away, and was hoping for some suggestions about Destin, too. My wife and I will...

    Hello from Coos Bay, Oregon

Thanks for the welcomes and replies, especially the Oregon coast links from Sumguy! Funny, I thought I'd get at least one reply from someone diving regularly off the Oreegon coast. I have lived here for about 15 years, and have found that it is not exactly a diving mecca, but, apparently...

Where tostay and who to dive with in Cozumel?

I'll chime in for another recommendation for Blue Angel. My wife and I completed our open water certification (with Kelly Coleman [www.divewithkelly.com]) in April, and Kelly used Blue Angel as her base of operations. It was a great experience, especially diving with Kelly. The place was not...

    Hello from Coos Bay, Oregon

Hello, everyone! This is a great board, and I have been eagerly reading the posts here, since I discovered this board a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I are new divers, having just completed our OW certification in Cozumel. We have only made 11 dives so far. Now that we are back from our...
