Question Resorts in Japan with diving not on Okinawa?

Unfortunately, Okinawa is really the only place where you can easily do a couple of shore dives before the family wakes up. That being said, Okinawa is only a 2-hour flight so maybe you can combine the two - spend a couple of days in both Tokyo and Okinawa ;) Domestic flights in Japan are quite...

    Seeking dive shop recommendations Okinawa

Ishigaki and Miyako are some nice islands to visit. Miyako has gin-clear water and nice water temps :) For a more thorough description of activities, take a look at this blog: The Miyakojima paradox : my mixed-feeling experience Conditions weren't fantastic when I visited Miyako but I did a day...

Okinawa - is shore diving good?

Lots of easy shore diving here. The locals wear felt-bottom boots to deal with slippery concrete steps. Most of my diving is shore diving. Lots of places to dive without any surface swims.

Trip Report Ishigaki Trip Report June 2022

The Emmons is a great dive - done a few trips there. Once all the LCC flights are running smoothly, I'd like to visit Taiwan. :D

    Air Fill at Ishigaki

My general impression was that the majority of the operators deal only with tourists who only occasionally dive or people doing "Try Scuba" and being pulled along. When I was in Ishigaki, my maximum depth was 15m. I was pleasantly surprised that my dive times were longer than the typical 40...

Location-wise, Max Air along the Sea Wall (Miyagi Coast) would be a good choice for tank rentals (1,040 yen) with aluminum 8, 10L and steel 10L tanks. If you become a member (100 yen), the cost drops to 540 yen. However, you may not be able to join because you are a tourist. Here's a link to the...

Nautilus Scuba Club (Cobourg / Port Hope) ?

Thanks for letting me know. That would explain why I couldn't find any recent information. Who is maintaining the PB Locke buoy now? I will be back in the area for a few weeks and I am debating whether or not it is worth bringing my gear...

    Okinawa Diving

A guide certainly isn't required. The boats that I have been on here in Okinawa (the ones that cater to the military divers instead of tourists) don't provide guides. I was by myself so I got paired up with some randos.

    Okinawa Diving

I'd just go with your lightest fins then. The weather will be warm so you really don't need too much for clothing ;) Unless you are here on business of course. I know that North of Nago has loaner SMBs but that really wouldn't save much weight by not bringing your own.

    Okinawa Diving

Many of the charters only go out on the weekends (certainly the case with North of Nago). Of course the military will have July 4th off so you shouldn't have a problem - just make sure you reserve plenty in advance. As far as diving the Emmons, you will certainly need a rental car to get up...

    Okinawa Diving

To answer your questions - the single backup light should be adequate. Water temps will certainly be over 80 when you arrive (it is almost now). Pretty soon I will be switching over to a shortie. FWIW, I don't wear a hood at all here even during winter. Depending on the weight difference, I...

Nautilus Scuba Club (Cobourg / Port Hope) ?

Can anyone tell me if this club still exists? The only information I can see is connected to the PB Locke and the club taking over the PB Locke buoy a few years ago. TIA

    Looking for Buddies

How often do you dive at Toby? I have always been interested in diving there and have been looking at options. Wondering if I should find a shop that has a trip there, walk on, or what... Any advice appreciated :)
