Initial questions that come to mind:
1. What was the buddy doing when he got lost? Did they both surface?
2. Even though he had a SMB, it was obviously not sufficient in this case
Another death this weekend in Australia, this time at one of Sydney's more popular shore dive sites.
Scuba diver dies after being found floating in water
Another report, with photos of the police recovering some gear:

I grew up in Brisbane but now live in Sydney. But didn't start diving until I was in Sydney. I can't comment too much on Brisbane diving, but with Sydney you are right at the ocean with plentiful options for both shore and boat dives.
Brisbane on the other hand is further from the ocean and...
I see them pretty reliably almost everywhere around this time.
Saw a congregation of 5 at Cape Solander (Kurnell) about 6 weeks ago.
Saw another congregation of 7 under some overhangs on a night dive at Bare Island 2 weeks ago.
Another night dive at Harbord I saw about 10 in about an hour's...
My first 10 or so dives I would fill all the fields out in the log meticulously, calculate my SAC rate and write a lot about my experiences.
After about 40 I still wrote my logs in my paper logbook and then copied the transcripts over to Diving Log 5.
After about 70 dives, I now only use the...
It's not illegal, but the boats do need a permit. There are also some fairly strict protocols you need to adhere to, which they go through with you on the boat.
If you want some nice bedtime reading, then here's a bit of info on the protocols...
Are you talking about the telescopic dry suit?
The suspenders keep the crotch of the drysuit up close to the croth of the diver, i.e. it's pulled up high. The drysuit crotch strap pulls the upper body part down so it folds over around the waist.
How about drysuit manufacturers who DON'T offer a custom cut option? I think they all offer some sort of custom suits to be honest.
Anyway, another two UK ones that do:
Otter
Fourth Element
Unfortunately the stats aren't covered in the SSI manuals. However, that exact point was made in the DAN Nitrox workshop document I've been reading as bedtime material :)
Also of interest was the mention that there's "no empirical evidence" to suggest you're less tired from diving Nitrox vs...
I meant by dialing in the actual FO2 i'm using, (say 32%) into the computer.
With air profile, I mean entering 21% as my FO2, even though i would really be breathing a higher mix.
Yeah I don't need an alarm, I know when not to go too deep, and on 32% wouldn't go below 100ft/30m anyway.
Pretty much what I was trying to get at. Setting the nitrox mix will get you MOD and CNS O2 exposure. Diving 32% I would be unlikely to go below 100ft/30m anyway - so I guess that just...
Hello,
Just doing my Nitrox course now and they were talking about diving air profiles with Nitrox. I can see a few issues with this idea. One being the CNS clock won't be calculated properly and 2, the MOD will be different for air to your actual Nitrox mix. I'm planning on going on a...
Ok, yes it's pretty unanimous that cargo holds are pressurised.
He said it came through an over pressure valve, but I wouldn't think an SPG had one.
It was the first dive after a flight. The water came in during the dive.
Maybe she didn't secure it properly in the bag and something damaged...
