Aug 12-16 Any shore divers need a dive buddy?

Hi! I hope you are well. I am still diving as much as usual, but not paying much attention to ScubaBoard. Are you still diving with DNS? Or OF?

Aug 12-16 Any shore divers need a dive buddy?

If you are interested in shore diving on the West Side (Macabuca, etc.), my wife and I would be happy to take you out on Aug. 12. Send me a PM.

    Shore diving - solo

I suppose you would rent them at Divers Supply, although they might (?) refuse also. Don't get me wrong: I am not advocating that cruise passengers who are only here for a day should attempt to dive solo from some location where no one can see them entering the water.

    Shore diving - solo

If you are shore diving at any of the established shore dive ops (Eden Rock, Sunset House, Macabuca, etc.) you will not be allowed to enter the water alone. However, it is easy enough to pick up a buddy pair during the daytime. If you are shore diving at any of the unsupervised locations then...

    Novice Diver

<< What my wife really liked the about living the dream is how easy they made diving... they pick you up at your condo, handle all the gear and you literally take a boat ride, suit up on a bench at the back of the boat and take one step in with all the gear on. >> Really, all the dive ops do that.

If you could spend a month on Grand Cayman…..

Spend some time on Little Cayman. And Eden Rock / Devil's Grotto is still worth a dive.

    non-dive op shore sites?

<< I don't believe you need to use the on-site tanks and Macabuca, either. >> Macabuca insists that you use their tanks.

    non-dive op shore sites?

GPS coordinates for Babylon: 19' 21.145 N, 81' 09.886 W. You probably did the tarpon dive at Turtle Reef / Macabuca? Also try Spanish Bay Reef in West Bay; the resort is closed but you can dive from shore.

Any small boat operations on the East End of Grand Cayman?

Ocean Frontiers boats hold 12 divers max. On the EE, as others have said, a larger boat is a good thing.

    Jan 2015 Cayman Trip

You've got a great location. Hepp's Wall (deep) and Hepp's Pipeline (shallow) are at your front door. You can rent tanks from Duncan. Hope the viz cooperates.

    Jan 2015 Cayman Trip

Sure. Water temp = 82 degrees F. Weather is sunny, moderate wind. Viz is mixed: poor at Turtle Reef, for example, but pretty decent at sites off 7 mile beach. Of course, all this can change in a few hours.

Inappropriate Behavior from Cayman Turtle Divers

Both links have disappeared, but the problem cannot be disposed of quite that easily. Here is a description of the offending photo. It showed a diver who, from the comments, appeared to work for Cayman Turtle Divers. He was wearing a bear costume and sitting underwater with his back to a...

Inappropriate Behavior from Cayman Turtle Divers

His back and his right leg appear to be in contact with live coral. Perhaps the DOE will be less amused than the Facebook posters.

    West Bay Dock Warning

My car was "keyed" the last time I parked there. They were locals hanging out there on that occasion.

Jobhunt for DI/DM position - Grand Cayman or Turks & Caicos walk in???

Well, there is something like 60 dive ops here on Grand Cayman so your biggest problem would be deciding which ones to approach in the limited time available. I would try to hit the largest dive ops as the odds are best with them. I suggest: Don Foster's, Red Sail Sports, Sunset Divers, DNS...

Grand Turk -vs Caicos for Family

I have stayed and dived on both Grand Turk and Salt Cay. Both are quite suitable for beginners with easy, predominantly shallow, dive sites. I would choose Salt Cay over Grand Turk for the same reason as mikeycanuk. I am not sure what you mean by "The west end of Caicos". Are you referring to...

    Diving Grand Cayman......where and why?

Fresh fish is available daily except Sunday at the fish market on the beach in central George Town.

Proposed interactive shark diving in the Caymans

Correct. On 1 shark dive there, a Reef Shark butted my buddy on the forehead which, as I understand things, is a pre-attack behaviour (?). We got it on film and had the image pasted onto a T-shirt. Personally, I am opposed to bring back shark feeding unless the evidence is clear (which it isn't)...

    Americans targeted at Owens Airport?

I agree with all that, but it's a point that doesn't really need to be made; that is how the Cayman judges have always treated these cases. People are fined, but not jailed.

    Americans targeted at Owens Airport?

True. I will just say that when I visit my friends in Texas I am happy to abide by the laws and customs of that State. And I trust that, when they come here, they will respect our own laws and customs.
