    Scary OW certification weekend

There are way to many things here raising red flags. First off... Anyone ever heard of this skill? I guess I have failed as an instructor because I don't make my students do a Buoyant Emergency ascent. Oh Wait, nobody makes students do this. I have had a line blow at the SPG, it takes a long...

    Coco View v. Mayan Princess

Nice place but I would never recommend it to anyone. Personal reference but I have not had any great experience there. I think "Awesome" is a bit over stating the cool factor. $$$$ is a better description

A few ideas on how to improve OW training

I am just going to say two things. First, since new students are inexperienced, even the best of training will leave them inexperienced for some time under water so it is the Instructors sole responsibility to make sure all his/her ducklings are swimming in line and safe. I ALWAYS take...

Not true. Walk South, Left down the beach to the pier just before infinity bay where the Water Taxis hang out. Surface swim at about 10:30 direction if straight out it 12 o'clock. When you hit the reef you can dive the channels until you come to a buoy in about 25 feet water where you will see...

Accident at Lake Rawlings Sunday 05/27/2012

This is always my biggest fear when doing Quarry certs and why I refuse a group larger than 3 in poor Viz. It is always a very sad day when something like this happens. Poor Viz, Cold water, Thick wet-suits, Lots of Lead and new divers is always a risk that needs extra effort to mitigate.

    Air Fill Protocol

I am the same way, I like a full tank. Just ask them to top it off when you pick it up after the tank cools. Most will do that for you. If they don't, you can find a different shop that wants your Biz

I too will second the get out and see the island. I love Roatan, I love diving different areas. CCV is great but you are pretty much stuck. I have never stayed there but until last year I dove there a lot. Last year the manager threw me and my guests off the island and said they no longer accept...

PADI Enriched Air Certification.... a little fishy.

Really billgraham, Impressive contribution... If you feel the answer to the OP was not given, then you you should learn how to read. The answer was given in the very second post but to apease you, PADI allows instructors to teach two way, Tables, or Computer. Honestly I have not taught...

PADI Enriched Air Certification.... a little fishy.

One of the best statements in this whole thread. Nitrox isn't rocket science, I teach it, it is pretty easy stuff and seriously, if you have the book, the dvd and tables, you can teach it to yourself competently in about 4 hours if you were lucky enough to have a course and competent instructor...

    Roatan in April

One benefit of HM on West Bay is that you can do some pretty spectacular shore diving right in front of infinity bay. Mandy's eel garden and the west end wall are all accessible and night dives there have a ton of life and a really excellent sandy patch about 25 feet deep to stop and see the...

Diverite Nitek He Stuck in Dive mode

Ended up fixing it by holding down both command buttons for what seemed like two minutes. It did a reset and cleared the 7" deep status and returned to surface mode. Gotta be more careful about where I toss it in the bag.

Diverite Nitek He Stuck in Dive mode

I returned from a Mexico trip and when I unpacked I noticed the Nitek flashing and stuck at 7 ft in dive mode. I have tried everything except pulling the batteries. I think what happened is it was next to some whet gear and must have gotten wet at altitude flying. Any thoughts?

    Money in Honduras

Once upon a time you could cash traveler's checks at Warren's Grocery Store (now Eldon's I believe) but they charged you for them and had some funky exchange rates. Once I figured that if I exchanged my travelers checks for euros then exchanged the euros for limpira I would make money but if I...

It is NOT the Gulf Oil Spill

It's a BP Well. Contractors aside, the well owner is responsible for the way the well is run and the resulting consequences. Drilling is a project and the Project Manager would be BP. Maybe only having a small handful of BP employees is a telling fact. If the well was a massive success and...

    Fish Life in Roatan?

Ah Oh! Did someone forget to tell the locals to put their lives on hold for the tourists? Sorry! Just my 2 cents! To the OP, Might be too late but there are fish in Roatan. RoatanMan pretty much covered anything I would have said but I can tell you that when diving there I see plenty of eels...

    Money in Honduras

LOL, I am sorry! :rofl3: I have one too, Gotta love HSBC :shakehead: To the OP. Just some advice, in most cases you get a better deal paying cash. Many places will not tax you for cash but you get a hefty tax penalty with credit and or debit cards. Right or wrong, that is reality down there...
