    Is BVI back?

The BVI is trying to recover, though it will never go as fast as we want it too! Dive BVI had to close our Leverick Bay location as the whole building got blown away, compressor/tanks and all. Air fills can be done by Sunchaser Scuba over near Bitter End Yacht Club (call ahead). We are...

Virgin Gorda post hurricane / wrecks

No worries! There's great diving in Grand Cayman and some good dive ops there too! Jeff

Virgin Gorda post hurricane / wrecks

Will agree with diversteve on most things he said :) Mineshaft and Rock cafe are closed, no idea on plans to rebuild. Coco Maya is open, as well as Chez Bamboo for dining. The diving is still good and the fish didn't go anywhere! Unfortunately, the airplane wreck at Coral Gardens disappeared...

    Going pro advice

Go at it wide open and with an open mind! Treat it like a Profession, not a hobby. We are always looking for Dive Professionals, not dive bums. Anyone can lead a dive trip, it takes a real pro to create a great experience, fun atmosphere, educational program, AND - most importantly - get...

QR Codes and Diver # on Cert Cards

The QR code is most helpful for Instructors and other Pro level members. Their teaching status can be quickly checked by scanning the code. The older stickers showed "current" for the year, but if that person's status was revoked, a student wouldn't have anyway to check without calling SSI...

Where to go for quiet, no night life, experienced divers and Nitrox?

I'll throw a vote in for BVI. I admit, I'm biased in that I live there, but there is a reason for that! Virgin Gorda is very quiet, no direct flights, and you can walk around everywhere you want with no worries. There are some high-end villas, posh hotel (Little Dix Bay Resort) and smaller...

    Any Great Diving BVI?

I think that BVI diving is pretty nice, having logged over 1000 dives here in the last 8 years. "Great" is really subjective, to me, it depends on what you are looking for and what your expectations are going in. For consistently nice conditions, both topside and u/w, the BVI is a good bet...

    Lionfish everywhere, BVI too

Not everywhere yet. We're hitting them as hard as we can. We'll try to get out there next week when the swell dies off and see what we can find.

Rhone Man's British Virgin Islands diving guide

In June, we can get to most sites unless there's some real squirrely weather around. Lee Bay has some great little areas for poking around, excellent for macro shots if you've got the gear. It's the only place I've found some pretty rare critters (at least according to local scientists)...

Did you catch/remove that one at Invisibles? Was the mooring still there? I nailed 2 at POS just the other day. Jeff

    Becoming an Instructor

Don't worry about how many dives you have! We all started with the same number - ZERO! As the other posters said, get out and dive. Freshwater/saltwater, cold-dark, warm-clear, whatever as long as you are getting the experience. I started out diving in Texas before moving to the Caribbean...

Safety Gear? What Safety Gear?? We don't need no stinkin...

I agree. Safety is number 1 in our business. We include all of our safety equipment in our boat briefings given every day on every trip. I'm selfish....I want everyone to know where the gear is in case something happens to me! Jeff

    BVI trip report

Thanks for diving with us! Wow, you got to do some of my Top 5 spots. The weather has been perfect for getting out to the "Great" sites and we are trying to take advantage of it. Can't wait to see you guys again soon! Jeff

Need help picking next dive destination, TX to ??

Check out the BVI! You can come out and dive with some fellow Texans. From IAH, you can get to San Juan (SJU)via Continental on a direct flight and then a 35 min flight (via Cape Air - they codeshare with Continental) to Tortola (EIS). We even have Dr. Pepper now on Virgin Gorda! Send me...

Earl is gone, BVI is still here!

We experienced some pretty nasty weather on Monday, Aug 30. Hurricane Earl came by us (60 miles N of Virgin Gorda) as a Cat 3 with winds over 125 mph. Luckily, we didn't catch the strongest winds but we did see well over 100 mph during the afternoon hours. ALL of the DIVE BVI staff, shops and...
