    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

Mark -- Thank you. Life IS a journey and it continues and brings new chapters. I'm not diving as much as I did when we were a team but then I've also moved and it isn't as easy (and the water has gotten colder here in Puget Sound and the gear has gotten heavier!). For me, another new chapter...

I'm 71 and DAN won't insure me -- now what?

Haven't found more dive insurance yet (and haven't looked that hard to tell the truth). It may be that I stop diving come August 1 for a while.

I've attached the letter from DAN.

I'm 71 and DAN won't insure me -- now what?

Yes, I am a Washington Resident which means ONLY the Guardian policy is available to me and AIG, the reinsurer (?) is now enforcing the provision limiting to under 71. I'm a bit distressed that no one seems to know of any dive insurer other than Dive Assure or DAN. Hmmmm.

I'm 71 and DAN won't insure me -- now what?

I got a notice last week that DAN won't continue my dive insurance because I'm now 71. Dive Assure won't insure me for incidents in the US. Anyone know of another company that will insure a diver for dive incidents? My insurance now expires July 31.

    Buoyancy skills

A couple of things about the exercise described by wetb4.... a. It is important to start with the snorkel only, no mask. This allows you, the instructor, to determine who can isolate their nose/mouth pathways. I found about 15% of people don't do this and it has to then be taught. They all...

    Diving after 65

I'm 69 and am pretty active which is probably the key -- IS the key. Most diving doesn't require a whole lot of fitness -- UNTIL IT DOES! I won't do 5 dives a day any more and sometimes "One and Done" is the result. I also don't dive 130s any more. IF you dive dry, get a P-valve!

inhale from reg exhale from nose

Interesting discussion. Whether underwater or on the surface, I exhale through my nose more than 50% of the time. Akimbo's discussion of the WOB issue is one that had never occurred to me and as I think about it, I definitely change my exhalation to mouth when exerted, but since I try very...

More Than 300,000 Farmed Atlantic Salmon Accidentally Released into Puget Sound

A little more information from the local newspaper (not a particularly conservative one either). The best guestimate is that about 50% of the fish escaped from the nets -- about 150,000. This is not the first escape of Atlantic salmon in Puget Sound (in fact the State tried to introduce...

Requirement to "remove and replace" scuba unit and weight system for dry suit cert.

Re which is "right" -- using the BCD for buoyancy control or the dry suit? It is my belief, based on personal experience and teaching students to dive dry, that the "right" answer is one of the two most important, and common, answers to any scuba question: "It depends." (BTW, the other answer...

Tech and/or cross-agency training before going Pro?

OP -- Years ago I was on a dive trip and the Instructor on board had 1200+ dives. We talked a lot about diving and it turned out he really only had about 12 dives each of which he had done 100 times. ALL of his diving had been with one dive entity in one area. At the time we talked, I had...

Requirement to "remove and replace" scuba unit and weight system for dry suit cert.

OP -- I think you've gotten the primary reason for being required to ditch the BCD when wearing a dry suit -- to get back into a small boat. Getting the BCD back on is hard and I, as an instructor, always believed that since you had a buddy, it was OK to let the buddy help "in a minimal...

    Scuba Instructor recommendations, Portland OR

Kosta -- I'm not quite retired from teaching (have a couple of private students right now) but I am not actively soliciting students. I moved to Olympia and have sold a lot of my student gear.

    TSandM -- Her Greatest Posts

I am truly amazed that two years later people are still discussing Lynne's posts. I'm convinced she had no idea anything like this could be happening but she'd be proud as hell that it is.
