The class being taught was a PADI Deep Diver specialty. As usual, the news reports don't have all of the details and some of what they reported is incorrect.
There were 2 students, the instructor, and an assistant instructor on the dive.
I share you opinion of Wikipiedia, I just referenced it because it summed up what I was trying to say.
O2 toxicity is indeed a separate issue from narcosis. We discussed narcosis in my nitrox class and it was also stated there that O2 has narcotic effects very similar to nitrogen. This is...
Oxygen also has a narcotic effect at depth, so nitrox won't reduce narcosis for all divers. The following link describes this pretty well:

We dove Morrison this afternoon and it was still a bit murky. I'd guess the viz was about 15 feet in the basin, and of course it was crystal clear down in the caverns.
Thanks for all the replies. I currently dive an LP95 and don't really notice the weight difference between that and my AL80. I think I'll go with the 130.
I chose the Ranger over the Black Diamond for durability, features, and price. I called Scubatoys and got a substantial discount on the Ranger Ltd. with a full warranty.

I suspect that the level of detail in the PADI course depends on the quality of the instructor. I took the class in March this year. It included the use of 32 and 36 percent tables, an EAD table and an oxygen exposure table. We also covered the formulas to calculate everything except oxygen...
That's interesting... I exchanged emails with Larry at ScubaToys and he told me that none of their cylinders come from Luxfer cleaned for partial pressure blending.

I just found this in the FAQ section of the Luxfer website:
"8. Question: Are Luxfer scuba cylinders ready for oxygen service when they leave the Luxfer factory?
Answer: New Luxfer scuba cylinders manufactured from January 1, 2000 , until December 31, 2004 , will have been cleaned for...
I have a pretty good relationship with the shop so I suspect that they are just being overly cautious. But it seems odd that the distributor would tell them to clean the cylinder since XS advertises them as "02 Clean".
From the XS website:
"New Luxfer scuba cylinders manufactured from...
Perhaps XS Scuba can address this question:
I went to my LDS this week to buy a new XS Scuba Aluminum 100. I read on the XS website that all of their cylinders are shipped O2 clean. When I got to the shop, I was told that I would have to pay an extra ~$40 to have it "re-cleaned" if I...
I'm planning a trip to Key Largo during the last week of March and I was wondering if "Sea Lice" would be a problem. What time of the year do they usually appear?
Thanks,
Dan
I'm considering buying that kit myself. Do I need to buy any additional plumbing/parts to be able to use it? It wasn't really clear on the web site how you connect the sensor to your tank.
No, I didn't make it. My dive buddy couldn't get free to go. Thanks for the update though. I still want to make a trip up there before it gets too cold.
I haven't been there since 1992. I remember being impressed with the wall dives and the chambers cut into the sides with "chimneys"...
There is a dive shop in Jonesboro, AR that runs a dive boat on Norfork (www.jtdiveshop.com). Jordan Marina (www.jordanmarina.com) also caters to divers and offers equipment and air fills, along with boat rentals right on the lake. I'm not sure, but they might offer guide service as well...
I never meant to imply that they were the same lake. I'm actually looking for information on Lake Ouachita dive sites and sharing some information I have about Lake Norfork.
