gz.... At this point you may have already made your decision. I have the Ike housing(5050 pre TTL) along with the DS-125 .... Fantastic setup...And have thought about the upgrade to the TTL chip .... plus there are a few other features that I like on the housing.

Well I didn't have to be up .... but I was going fishing and saw the sky and had a game plan change ..... Yes It was early .... and real COLD !!!!! but so worth it ;)

with the older cameras...2000 and 3000 series and not sure about the 4040.... I think you need to send the camera back to Olympus for the fix ... pixel Mapping.....I guess it was common that they decided to make it (pixel mapping) a feature on the newer cameras.
Ted ....Thats interesting .... Only because of that thread over on DD about Spot vs. iESP ...... I'll have to play with the sharpness levels now ......Although in general I get very sharp photos :confused:

The cropping bit ..... The photo staff at the place I went was fantastic ...... they printed several pictures over as they felt they had not aligned properly...... She even went through my 5x7...
As for the update I would think the camera would need to go back to Olympus ..... "is it a big a deal" ... depends on what the update was for .... like ssra says

v558-77 ... wonder if this is just a coincidence or if the 78 version addresses this .....I would be inclined to think not but who knows .....

Oh ..... I'm curious about the batteries also..... i.e. differences in mAh and the battery you speak of ...... I recall using that lithium battery in the 3040 .... worked long and hard but dont recall how it acted toward the end of its life..... I do remember its to expensive
