    Unsure

Hey, I posted here before about an incident that happened to me on my very first dive before my cert. I basically got sucked into a wave and have felt a bit unsure about diving since. However, I've got all my gear and a really nice wetsuit I got for real a good deal. I was planning to join my...

Bare 7mm Arctic SGS Fullsuit with hood

I recently bought the SGS suit with the 7mm SGS hood vest combo. It's a size 18, the biggest they have for women. I'm 5'11.5" and around 160 pounds. The women's suits get wider as they get taller. I tried on the fullsuit and it has a a lot of room around the stomach and some on the thighs, I...

    Post-scary dive

I posted a thread here a few months ago about my first dive. I was pulled in by a sudden wave on my very first dive before getting my cert. It was a bit of a traumatic experience, but I did my two dives that day at a different location. A week after that I did my last two dives and got my cert...

    wetsuit in Monterey, CA

Well, the suit was a bit big on me and old. I'm tall 5'11.5" and female, so the taller the suits get the wider they seem to get. I suppose I should get something custom made, but I haven't got a whole lot of money to spend. I really want to layer, as opposed to getting john and jane.

    wetsuit in Monterey, CA

Cold pacific waters in good old Monterey California. When I was getting my cert I used a 7mm john and jane rental and felt pretty cold at 60 feet. I need to get my own wetsuit for my school club. I've been browsing online, and I was wondering if the super duper 7mm one pieces with layering...

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

Yes, it was the same instructor I had in the pool and class. Yes, it was Monestary! Crazy beach.

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

jasmith1961, you hit in on the head. I felt a traumatized hours later, after I came home. I kept talking about it with friends and on here, just to get it out of my system and that helped a lot. And, yes, the part that was traumatic was the friend--the situation didn't seem scary until she...

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

isurus, yes, Monterey is supposed to be a really cool place to dive. But it sure wasn't on my 4 dives (due to weather mostly). That's ok, hopefully when I hook up with the university, I'll see more in Monterey. Ayisha, I'm a tall female but not very wide and the wetsuits they had at the...

Drysuits are just too much $! I'm a student and limited, haha.

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

Well, I'm certified now! I did my dives 3 and 4 off a boat. I hate to say it, but the dives were a bit boring. We couldn't see much and I was just freezing the whole time. We did it in Monterey, CA. So, very tough and water is very cold. I guess I can't really judge after 4 dives. I'm thinking...

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

Thanks again for even more feedback! It's funny, I recently got into road cycling and the people at those boards can be very stuck up and unwilling to help, as if I should magically know things. So, I appreciate this! Actually I didn't get my c-card yet, this Sunday I have two boat dives and if...

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

I knew they weren't going to be able to fish me out and I didn't expect them to. I just wish I knew ahead of time what to do. An experienced diver broke one of the rules of helping a paniced diver--yelling! I wasn't even paniced yet, only after the yelling started. I'm glad everyone has a lot to...

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

Hey Scuba, I couldn't get myself to crawl. I was just totally weak in the knees, plus I was climbing up a sligh incline--which felt like a mountain at the time. I could barely keep on my knees when I was doing it. I was really disappointed in myself that I couldn't some how muster up the...

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I don't think the instructor did anything wrong, I just wish I had more instructions (before ever getting in the ocean) and less screaming. I was being thrashed around and the first thing I thought was, I bet I will have to get used to this. Until the screaming...

    scary first dive--appreciate some advice

I went on my first two dives today for my OW class. We had suited up to go and everything seemed fine. Two people ahead of my buddy and me got into the water fine. Just as my buddy and I was stepping in, a huge wave just sucked us in. He managed to get back on his feet, but I kept tumbling in...
