Wow...how great are those shots? Love the snails and didn't even know Corambe pacifica existed. How big were all those nudi's?
One day I hope to dive as much as you and Phil get to...
I don't have the 70d, but I do own the 7d. I shoot this with the Ikelite housing, 60mm macro & 100mm macro. The 100 can be quite frustrating and will test your patience if there is surge to deal with. The 60 is my goto lens right now because I have yet to house my WA lens.
Have fun!
Hmmm...I'm thinking about just stabbing 35 (ca regs) of the purple ones anytime I dive outside of a restricted area. I wonder if there's any issue with that?
I always cook mine the night I catch them. If I'm not going to eat them right away, I'll flash boil them for around 8 mins and then tail them. Wrap them in freezer bags and throw in the freezer. I like to BBQ, so when we eat them I usually thaw them in the fridge, butterfly the tail when...
I'll probably end up going on that day - I wouldn't worry about the minimum being met. Rex is right; the food and crew is great and they'll put you on the best spot possible.

If you have the basics down and are looking to get past roadblocks in your development, then I'd suggest the book by Martin Edge. The underwater photographer fourth edition covers all of your topics. Most people will say shoot, shoot and shoot some more. I did this and have learned via trial...
I was on the Spectre Saturday (9/8). The swells pretty much knocked out the backside of Anacapa for us and the wind was affecting the frontside. We headed West to Santa Cruz for 2 dives at Pirate's Anchorage. The vis was around 30 feet or so. Dive 3 was called off at Santa Cruz because of...
Nice post FrankPro1!
Would you mind describing the logistics of going to Scorpion Anchorage? Such as:
Weight limits on the boat ride
Gear limits
Distance from landing to campsite(s)
Campfires are allowed?
Did you take your own kayak or did you rent?
Thanks -
Greg
I wouldn't entirely write-off Santa Cruz Island. There is some spectacular diving off the backside from Gull Island (closer to the west end) east to Yellow Banks (east end). Of course you have to be taken there though. You may want to drive the extra 45-1hr south to Ventura and hit up the...
Damnit - you better enjoy diving again. We had a wonderful set of dives for lobster opener in 2010, as well as diving Santa Barbara Island earlier in the year for your 50th Bday.
Suck it up - Sh!t happens with gear and DM's can suck in foreign countries. We all learn from our (your)...
Thanks for the comments!
Bperc - My buddy lives in Buellton and I live in the Valley, so it generally is a toss up between who wants to make the drive. Lately I've been the one to make the drive north because of the shelter that Refugio gets and the easy entry / exit carrying a big camera...
