Question Where to get CO bump (test) gas for CO analyzer?

I bought the test gas from Nuvair when I bought their CO detector, along with lots of compressor parts, but for some reason their website is giving me a warning. "Firefox detected an issue and did not continue to nuvair.com."

    Dive Sites Near Sacramento?

When the salmon are held at the Feather River fish hatchery, you can park on Old Ferry Rd, and it is worth it to jump in the water and swim up to the low head dam. The amount of salmon and size of them makes it a magical dive in close proximity to the largest concentration of salmon one will see...

    WTB: compass

SK7 Bungee Mount & Sunnto Compass w/ 3 feet of 3/16 Black Bungee Cord! I have two of the SK7's and swear by them. I keep one mounted on my scooter, and of course one on my left wrist in a bungee mount.

    What's in your wet notes?

Interesting place to carry your signal mirror. *shrugs* Should be well protected. Tank factors are written in my notes. I carry my DAN card. Two pencils, in case I drop one (One has a lanyard). Tables are in the back and viewable. That is about it. "Where is the anchor?" My friends often...

"Warm water backplate" with a "cold water wing" a bad idea?

My plate is one of the originals, and is modified with a rail to work with the Mach V wing, so it has two screws with nuts holding it on. The backpack is a recycled...backpack. I always get my bag searched due to electronics, but they have always been nice about it. Owning a conventional...

"Warm water backplate" with a "cold water wing" a bad idea?

I dive an Oxycheq Mach V 40lb singles wing in cold water to keep my kit from sinking with the tank full. The same wing is my warm water wing and it works perfectly. As to carrying a heavy stainless plate...well I found a way. I do remove my lead wedge though. I wouldn't like to go back to a...

OW want to dive in NorCal

As someone who dives in Northern California I agree with that statement 100%. Shore diving will help since you are ascending slower and can control your buoyancy better. Plus our local dive boats do not put a DM in the water with you. Here you are in charge of your own dive. If you can go...

Why did I get nauseated? Oil and water in my tank.

OP it is time for the dive shop to buy a CO meter for the their compressor and for you to buy one to check all your air fills. That WAS a near death experience. We had something similar happen and people were nauseous and throwing up. Post up the name of the shop and insist they install a CO...

    Wetsuit Suggestions for California

My wetsuit made it 20 freezing cold dives. Then I bought a NOS DUI EOD drysuit which is effectively a CF200, and dove it for 300 dives. It even came with 400gram undies. If you can find the right deal, a drysuit used does not have to be expensive.

    shipping tanks within USA

What is the cost of a rental tank vs a fill? Take the purchase price of the tank, plus shipping, plus a visual, and factor in the hydro in the future and what is the payback? I would understand the convenience factor more. I don't know how much a fill is these days, but it used to be around...

    Weight belt options

I agree 30lbs you are most likely heavily overweighted. That is more than I wear with a drysuit and thick undies. I dive off a 14' inflatable all the time. Routine is to cut waist strap loose, and remove crotch strap. Before ditching BC toss weight belt into boat. For my petite gal, I put a...

    Dive Rite "Streamlines Openwater Configuration"

And here I would say start with a 5ft hose as it is easy enough to manage, will cost less since there is not extra 90* fitting, and will route cleanly.

    diving anytime soon

We could see for miles, from the surface. Vis was craptastic at around 2ft according to the instructors in the water, and we couldn't see thru the waves at Fort Ross, and Still Water wasn't very good either. So we headed to the Bodega Art and Wine Festival to meet up with some friends.

    shipping tanks within USA

Rent aluminum tanks...buy steel tanks! Other than the convenience of having tanks ready to go at a moments notice there is no savings in owning aluminum tanks for recreational diving.

Bad air originating in tank and not compressor

After reading repeatedly about Oxycheq issues with customer service and having used Nuvair customer service, I would recommend the Nuvair unit.

    When did you lose track?

Not being a card collector (Although I do have more than a few), and not looking to brag, along with being lazy, I have not logged a single dive since I did my certification. From around dive 20 something I lost track and as you did I used my computers to track dives. With battery changes, and...

    diving anytime soon

We are headed out tomorrow to Gerstle Cove, Still Water, or Fort Ross. My friend is learning a drysuit, so we are trying to get more dives in. Hopefully we get enough vis to go diving.

Gear too heavy to walk on boat/climb ladder

I can relate. I had a Scubapro Knighthawk BC when I first started that hurt my shoulders/neck after a long hike. Changed to a BP/W and now it is like wearing my regular backpack. OP definitely call when going to Catalina as most California dive ops are hands off. They will help pull gear out...

Three dead and one in recompression chamber in Italy, Tuscany

My cousin just lost two of his kids in a house fire. They were very young, and unable to escape from the upstairs. By the time the parents realized the house was on fire it was too late to get to them as the house was engulfed. I have smoke detectors/CO alarms in the bedrooms and one in the...

Three dead and one in recompression chamber in Italy, Tuscany

Well this tragedy will hopefully save others by bringing CO poisoning while scuba diving to the forefront. Since I have first hand experience with CO in our tanks, I can say diving nitrox has an advantage in that it is checked before diving it. The dive boat we were on was putting in close to...
