Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

True that. :) Stepped away from diving for a time (although I'll be back when the time is right) so I haven't felt like I have a lot to contribute. Some things are worth coming back for. The passing of a friend definitely applies. :(

    RIP Quero

I just learned of this today, and am stunned. Sadness. I enjoyed diving with her, and wanted to do so again when I return to Thailand. RIP to an amazing woman.

Scuba diver dies after being found floating at Kurnell, NSW, Australia

I am seriously saddened to learn of Marcia's passing. I learned of it just today, when I was looking up her information to pass onto a friend who was heading to Thailand to do some diving. Needless to say, I was shocked and horrified when I saw all the RIP posts on her facebook page. I...

    RecSea S95 or FIX S95?

I generally take at least 3-4 shots of each subject, in fairly rapid procession. Sometimes more, if it's especially neat (or fast-moving!). Digital shots are free, there's no need to conserve space on an 8gb chip unless I've been lazy about clearing it off. Kudos to the old school instincts...

    RecSea S95 or FIX S95?

My condolences... Scott mentioned your leg, and I meant to drop you a line, but I haven't been on dive boards for quite a bit, dealing with various things on the home front. (Haven't been diving, either, until recently... went over 4 months!) Hope you get back to the water soon! Let me know...

    silica gel packs S95

Must be a hot weather humid climate thing? Here in SoCal, I've never had a single fogging incident, and have never used a desiccant in my Fix S90 housing.

    RecSea S95 or FIX S95?

I'm guessing you're not using the strobe on every shot, and do a lot of natural light work? And what's your LCD timeout set to? And how many shots do you take per dive? Or are your dives just shorter than mine, usually? Diving the cold, dark SoCal waters, I shoot 100% of my shots with an...

    S90 + Ikelite housing : First Impressions

Yikes! I've read reports of users who have purchased little pieces of friction tape (the sort of stuff that they put on stair steps to make them less slippery... kind of like the rough striking surface of a matchbox), and cut a little piece to put on the front of the camera where your right...

Fisheye Fix S90 housing and camera bouyancy

I've had the same problem. Pulling the mode control up is essential, of course, but at that point all that's left to do is start smacking my fragile toy harder than I'd like, repeatedly, until it finally pops out. Some sort of smallish plastic prying tool may be a good idea. Post back if...

    My new Uemis SDA

Agreed on all counts. The Galileo does not calculate the consumption rate on board. As you noted, it will give an "estimate" of remaining bottom time based on the current rate of consumption. It doesn't need to know tank volume for that, just measure how fast the pressure is dropping...

Apparently you don't dive in the United States, using US-standard cylinders. Or the Caribbean. Fill how you like, it doesn't change the fact that standard Aluminum cylinders, the most common used throughout the world, are rated for 3000 psi fills under our US laws and regulations. Steel is a...

    My new Uemis SDA

Agreed. That's how every single desktop software I've seen does it. It's not complicated math, and should be well within the computer's capabilities, if they take the time to set it up right. The whole world does NOT dive exclusively 3000 psi aluminum cylinders.

SG- I figured you knew about an 80 (and my post said so!), I just wanted to be clear for other coming along. :) Ok, gotcha re the 102. New one for me... I had never noticed the old PST HP100s were actually 102s. (even when I owned one) Edit: SG, no pic shows in your post above. (#52)

Canon S90 w/ lenses Pool Practice

Agreed. It's pretty easy to bump the lever once or twice to hit the right number. (At least, it is with the Fix and Canon housings... since the Ike housing lacks a spring-loaded center, that might be a smidge tougher.) Then, just hit the lever until you're at full wide to go back to regular...

New Canon S90 & Canon Housing

I've seen the S90 as low as $350, so $450 is WAY too much. (Kills me a bit, considering I paid $430 for mine, but such is the cost of being the early adopter.) If you're just using the camera for recreational snaps and have no intention of adding lenses, the Canon housing is just fine...
