    New DS51 Issues

I just did another quick test that I didn't think to do last night. When the camera is set to manual but the EV controller is set for pre-flash, the strobe seems to fire at the appropriate time with the controller set to F, 0.5 or 1. So it looks like for whatever reason those three power...

    New DS51 Issues

I just pulled my new DS51 out of the box last night and have been having some issues that I hope are user error. I have it set up as a slave with the EV controller with a Canon SX200 IS and Ikelite housing. When I have the camera set in manual mode (pre flash off) the strobe works flawlessly...

    Ikelite Pro-v8 as Focus Light?

Hey all, I just got a Canon SX 200 IS and will be picking up an ikelike housing and AF35 strobe for it. I'm considering getting an Ikelite Pro-v8 video light to use as a focus light and also for those times when I want to take advantage of the SX200's HD video capabilities. My main focus is...

Why do we bash each other?

He didn't say, I didn't ask. Finding out his diving and dive training history was secondary to making him leave so we could get back to enjoying the sun and water and not have to hear and angry rant about how much better we were than everybody else. I mean I know I'm great and all, but sometimes...

Why do we bash each other?

That had been my experience until about a year and a half ago. I'd always heard that "DIR divers" were real butt pirates, but every person that I had met who was DIR or GUE trained (UTD wasn't around at this point) had always been nothing other than pleasant. Then one day while on vacation in...

Oppertunity for Halcyon Explore BP/W setup

Yea, it's just a matter of switching out the wing. Don't go solely by lift capacity though, the shape of the wing is also important. For example, if you go onto the halcyon website you'll notice that both eclipse (single tank) and evolve (double tank) wings come in the 30-40lb lift capacity...

Oppertunity for Halcyon Explore BP/W setup

The Explorer wing is designed to be used with double tanks, as such it is quite a bit wider than a wing designed for use with a single tank. If you use it with a single AL80 you're going to end up with "taco tank", a condition in which all of the air in the wing is above your tank. It will cause...

Airbrush and Scuba help needed from the experts!

As others have said a diaphragm first stage and a low pressure hose with whatever attachment you need on the end. Other things you might want to consider are an over pressure valve (OPV) and a small button style pressure gauge. The OPV is a good thing to have as should your regulator develop a...

    Downward currents?

I've frequently encountered downwelling currents at various sites along the lower mainland (whytecliff, ansell, furry creek, copper cove etc.). In my experience through they've never been anything but mild and the only way one could get you in trouble is if you never look at your depth gauge...

    Leg weights

You may not have floaty legs at all. There are a few minor things that you could be doing which are causing you center of gravity to shift forward slightly resulting your legs up position and the illusion of floaty feet. Without diving with you or having any pictures or video or in fact any idea...

Diving Stages instead of Back Gas?

I've not heard of anybody diving a stage and reserving the entire backgas for emergencies around here, but you will find people diving stages to save money when diving trimix. The idea being that rather than bleed off the last few 100 psi of trimix remaining in your tanks after each dive you...

    Diver Death in Cayman

Interesting. By PADI standards (and they were PADI correct?) the maximum depth of AOW must not exceed 100ft. I had a buddy who had a student panic on him during the deep dive of the AOW course. The student bolted for the surface taking the DM with him, nobody was hurt but precautions were taken...

DIR primary hose length for open water, no overhead

I would just go with the 7ft hose. It may not be completely necessary in open water but it sure makes traveling underwater while sharing air easy. On top of that, if you ever do decide to get into cave/wreck/deco diving, it is one less thing you have to worry about.

    Reusable Pockets???

If your pockets are glued on to your wetsuit they may be a bit tricky to get off and if you can get them off I'm pretty sure that any glue left on the pockets would interfere with any new glue you tried using. If it were my wetsuit I would get the pockets sewn onto the new suit and would then...

    Narcosis Managing Techniques

I think the best thing you can do is practice your skills in shallow water (like 10 or 20ft) until they're rock solid. That way, should you be diving deep and need to share air, replace a dislodged mask, use a reel or whatever the task may be then at least you're more reliant on muscle memory...

What's the best way to give rescue breaths w/a back inflating BCD?

Just a note on mouth to snorkel. With the majority of snorkels people are buying/diving with these days mouth to snorkel breathing would be quite difficult due to splash guards at the top of the snorkel and purges at the bottom. I can only imagine the complexity of trying to plug up the purge...
