They do make a saltwater version I will find it and post it. well I couldnt find an automatic one for saltwater but the one I posted before was alluminum alloy frame and stainless steel spring so as long as you rinsed it not sure it would not last a couple of years.

How about using a Fly fishing reel. The kind that has a lever to automatically rewind the line. I think it uses a spring that automatically tightens as line is pulled out then the lever releases the spring and the line is reeled back in. I am not sure about tension adjustment tho.
