Kudos to Al Gore on his Nobel

I think its great that one of America's sons has won the world's highest honor! What is with all the hating? I think Americans should all be proud of our accomplishments. Peter

    Diving with 1 eye

I'm blind in one eye. I just scan my surroundings. Up, down, left, right, buddy. Every couple of seconds. Works great. Good luck, I live a pretty normal life with my one eye. I do bump into things while walking, and I have to be careful around small kids. No worries, Peter

Looking for a Orlando shop that offers night/weekend classes?

Hello - I think you'll find that most of the shops offer evening and weekend classes. When I used Castaway scuba (castawayscuba.com) , we had an evening course on Thursday, and then did the diving on Saturday and Sunday. Regards, Peter Doege

This is a photo of a partially handicapped diver using a reversed ("mirrored") wing from Deep Sea Supply.

    Twin PST 80's

I am 6'2" and I have dbl HP80s. They do not trim out as well longer tanks, but it is doable. I use them for all of my lightweight deco and rec dives. Much easier to carry than the bigger doubles. If I only had one set of doubles I would get LP85s or 130s. However, as a second set they...

Scubapro Mk2+ Allen key size? Metric?

DIN connectors are normally 6mm. That connector should be torqued to 266in-lb or 30Nm, not that much. It is probably held on with a bit of Loctite. I would 1) leave it in as the captive oring #28 probably does not need to be replaced 2) failing that heat the unit to the melting point of 242...

A little help from 7mm vets

I routinely dive the springs in a 7mm and I have not had this problem. Perhaps you are getting some air trapped in your boots? Fin keepers might help. As always, the more dives the better. I wouldn't worry about the first few minutes anyway. Bouancy at depth and ascent is the...

Which wrist dive computer to choose from?

If you search the board for archimede you should be able to find my reviews of my archimede. It is still going strong, about 375 dives now, no problems. 200 or so have been deco dives. The archimede has gotten me back safely every time. I use a Nitek Duo and Nitek 3 mostly at the moment...

1st Stage Balancing -Am I correct?

Your statements appear to be correct. Various regulators are better/worse at balancing and coping with tank pressure than others but the physics is the same. Peter

    thread sizes on reg?

The Conshelf XII is a really easy reg to work on, and the 2nds that you list in your profile are easy to adjust. You should be able to find manuals, instructions, parts, etc. with a google search. Peter

    How finiky are dive computers?

It all depends on the computer, however, in general when you get to shallow depths rapidly raising an arm or rotating your body from horizontal to vertical will set off the fast ascent warning. No big deal. To the computer, a raised arm at 20 feet is a big pressure difference and it will...

    Concerned about regulator care.

I give mine a 10 minute fresh water soak while I pack up the rest of my gear, throw them in their bag, and then store them in the (unheated) garage. They've lasted for years now with no signs of damage. Your well coddled regs will last a lifetime :) Peter

    DIN regulator advice

I'd go with the DR 2500. They are great regs. Tough, easy to service, breathe well. Peter

Sherwood regs...servicing regulators (can) cause them to fail?

I'd be tempted to dive them until they show signs of needing service, and then servicing them. The only time I've had problems with my regs has been after a tech butchered them. YMMV. Peter

Cressi Archimede, Oceanic Veo 250 or Uwatec Aladin Pro II ?

If you search for Cressi Archimede you will find my various reports on it. I have over 250 dives on it now, over 4 years, and it is still going strong. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the computers that you've listed. Peter

    HP or LP double

You should get whatever your buddies have. It will make gas matching easier. I have HP and LP doubles. I use the big LPs for longer dives, and the smaller HPs for everything else. Peter

    Who's bought webbing from ReefScuba?

I have red, black, and blue harnesses that I made from webbing that I purchased from Reef Scuba. The webbing is stiff, but I like the harness a little stiff as it helps when donning/doffing. Peter

    Dive Op Recommendation (Diversity)

I was out with them last month. Nice boat, good crew. Doubles friendly, but don't go into deco. The first person to book that day calls the dives. Bring your own snacks. They do have water. The dry box is on the small side. The boat uses a ladder. Peter

    HP vs LP Dual Tanks

You can jam a lot of air into an over pressurised LP, and for some people the LPs give better trim. I use both LPs and HPs as doubles. And as singles for that matter. Peter

Regulator Annual Service & Maintenance, Sport’s Biggest Scam???

I've found that my regs normally go 150 - 200 dives before needing a service. I only buy regs that have parts available on the open market. I never had much luck with the various LDS when it came to my regs. I started servicing the regs myself after I had to cancel dives after getting new...
