PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

Yeah, I don't have anything further to add to Racheal's self-important judgement of my OW skills or level of panic. Her training is obviously far superior to anything I've received. *rolleyes* Peter

PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

I think you're taking your bench analysis a little too far. 1) I don't have a problem with losing my reg, I had a problem with my buddy ripping his out of my mouth for no apparent reason. 2) I did plenty of reg knocked out of my mouth drills, including simulated panicked diver...

PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

It amazes me just how long this thread can continue, but I like it. Even the parts that are critical of me, or insinuating I don't have a handle on my OW skills yet. Pretty soon I'm off to do DM training, which will be a whole new set of fun experiences. I think I'm going to do it in 80F...

Tuesday 9/26/2006 Weekly Malibu Night Dive

So, are we still on for tomorrow night? Still don't know for sure what my birthday festivities are, but I think I can make it.. Usually have tuesday nights booked, but I could probably make an exception for Gorgonian.. Peter

My first experience with Nitrogen Narcosis!

I would think that you were closer to oxygen toxicity than nitrogen narcosis. EAN32 maxes out at what... 120'? EAN31 is good to 110, I have a tank I did the math on right outside in the carport. I've done 80' on air and not even been close to narcosis, although physiology, repetitive diving...

PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

Naw, it's a PADI class, pay your money and get your card. At *least* until you go for instructor. There's a whole lot of PADI DM's that can't find their ***** with two hands and a flashlight. Peter

Tuesday 9/26/2006 Weekly Malibu Night Dive

I'm good for doing a Malibu night dive as long as it's *in* Malibu. :) Pretty sure my octo is good as well, so as long as I don't roll around in the sandy whitewash again, I'll probably be right as rain. That being said, I think I should be able to keep up at an hour under as long as we're...

PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

I managed, but I wasn't expecting the situation. Personally, I feel far more comfortable by myself than with an unknown quantity swimming next to me. Seems to me, in all reality, I need more training, practice, and preperation to deal with the antics of the person diving next to me, than I do...

PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

If there was any air actually *in* my lungs, I would be exhaling. There wasn't a cubic millimeter, I had just exhaled through his reg, hence the reference to being at (bottom lung). Peter

PADI Rescue Diver class near miss (and lessons learned)

The setup: An egotistical buddy who basically had a superiority complex and an attitude problem to begin with. Dude had issues *before* diving. The situation: Quick dive including a little buddy breathing excercise. The incident: Instructor signals us to practice buddy breathing...

    What Scares You The Most?

Not once. I pee before, I pee after. I half-strip and head for the bushes. I assume, at some point in time, that I'll absolutely have to, but it hasn't happened yet. :) Peter

Malibu Weekly Night Dive Wednesday 9/20/2006

Just a thought, for better vis, we might want to get in as early as possible, when the high tide starts going out, is when all the sand off the beach starts getting dragged into the water and the vis dies. Peter

Am I a candidate to pursue DIR?

I've talked to a number of shops about log book 'credibility' issues, being that the majority of my dives to date were solo, and only one shop gave me a bunch of crap about how I needed signature or how could they prove that I actually dove the times I say I did. The reality is, those dives...
