    Question Snorkeling Recommendations for Coz?

Thank you for your suggestions - please keep them coming, any additional suggestions welcome. I see in another thread references to El Cielo. Sounds like a place where you can be pretty sure to see sea stars and maybe stingrays(?). Also seems to be a dumping ground for party boats and...

    Question Snorkeling Recommendations for Coz?

Starting to plan a trip for Spring of 2025 (yes, I do like to start planning early). We've been to Cozumel before for dedicated dive trips many times, but this trip will be a bit different: we will have 3 kids along (ages 10-14). Yes, we grownups will manage to squeeze in a few days diving (at...

Trip Report Guanaja, Bay Islands, Honduras-- February 6-16, 2023

Thank you, very nice report. I'm off to Guanaja next weekend. We're staying at a different place (Clark's Cay) but very glad to hear all the details about your recent experience. 80 degree water with good viz sounds nice.

    Roatan & Guanaja Trip

Gassed, when was your visit to Dunbar? But...no bugs on The Rock, right? It's a minor point, but you'll get bitten on Roatan, no?

    Down Currents Cozumel

I wrote up my description of what I experienced here and here (there are now multiple threads on this). To summarize and answer the above question directly: The first thing I noticed was sharp, intense ear pain. At first I just equalized quickly (easy for me), almost without thinking about it...

    Down Currents Cozumel

Actually, there's another "disorientation" that has been mentioned in passing a couple of times: bubbles. When I got (presumably) sucked down by a downcurrent, one of the first clues I noticed was that I was surrounded by dense, tiny bubbles, which did not seem to be behaving like all the other...

    Missing diver.

@BLee88 - Jeremy's dive op is called Living Underwater. Disclaimer: It's been a few years since I was last there (I haven't been diving since the pandemic blew up, we are going for our first post-COVID dives next month - to Honduras, not Coz this time). I've gone diving with Jeremy and Living...

No worries, no offense taken at all (it's the internet, keep your expectations in check). Play on.

    Missing diver.

I have run into this, or seen something like it, a few times. (No comment on what's motivating that policy.) Me and my diving spouse only have basic PADI OW certification (though I have a shipload of dives over my 35+ years of diving). I've seen dive ops that state you need to show AOW...

    Missing diver.

To clarify a few details of my experience described above... I still have pretty vivid memories of this incident (despite it having occurred roughly 15 years ago). I don't think I ever panicked, and I don't think "panic" was really imminent (and I don't think I'm in denial about that). What I...

    Missing diver.

I had one experience in a strong downcurrent in Cozumel years ago. I've been diving Cozumel for about 35 years, with some long gaps between, about maybe 8 to 10 visits. First time diving there was I think, around 1988 and I went with Aqua Safari (they were good enough, I knew no better), did...

Finding a (Best) Dive Op in Cozumel

I have no direct experience with that dive op, but we've stayed at the El Prez several times (love the hotel very much), and watched them (Scuba Du) come and go. As I recall, their boat looked huge (that is NOT a good sign: giant boat usually means too many divers in the water with you, ie a...

Eyeroll. Vomit a little. Supermarket tabloid drama. Poor, poor influencers, might have to sell their prized Porsche to pay the medical bills if they don't get enough donations from their loyal followers. Teeny tiny violins. Oh the humanity.

    Local News

Hilarious, nearly content-free article, good for a chuckle. Appears to have been written by a bot (and not a very good one), certainly not by any human that has ever spent five minutes there. Love all the gushing references to Cozumel's amazing beaches, not to mention the lack of proofreading...

    Trip Report 11/9 – 11/15 Presidente & Jungle Divers

Nice trip report, good write up and nice photos, thank you. I love this hotel. I don't go to Cozumel as often as I'd like, but I've been going since the late 1980s with sometimes long intervals in between (been there about a dozen times I suppose). The last few times we've gone, we have...

    Latest entry/exit details

Hey @ReefHound, thanks for your trip notes above - it's helpful to hear something recent. I got a few questions about what to expect when arriving on an international flight in Roatan. I'm going in February. You mention a potential bag x-ray above (which your bags may have actually bypassed)...

    Roatan & Guanaja Trip

Hey @Ukmc , I'm thinking about a dive trip to Guanaja in winter/spring 2023 (February/March). Dunbar Rock certainly looks interesting (so does their other property, which I'm also considering). Other than their website and just a couple brief mentions here, I've not seen/heard much about Dunbar...

    Okinawa/Ishigaki water temperatures in March?

Thank you, very useful info. Water temps are probably a bit cooler than we like (especially my tropical girl warm-water spouse). We will discuss but I suspect we will probably opt do this trip a bit later in the year when things are more reliably warm. Thanks again.
