Dive options when limited to 40 feet

And for a slight change-up, try Sunrise Motel in Hoodsport, WA. You can see all kinds of interesting critters from 40 feet and up. You can wade in to waist deep and see lots of life just by putting your face in the water. (Mask suggested)

Just finished first set of open water dives

You can one thing for yourself. Just before you wade into the water, set your compass on a heading that would bring you back to your starting point. Now, no matter where you go in the quarry, you know home is "thataway". This is just a little thing that you may not even really use but the...

I'll add to that vote. And don't forget that they don't leave a panty line. So important.

    Throwing up in your regulator??

Just makes your mouth water, doesn't it? I was always told to leave it in and let it rip. A freind of mine was diving with his SF team when he slid over and snagged one of the other guys' shiny new knife. He pinned a flounder to the sea bottom and had himself a bit of sushi right there. He...

    Drowning Doesn't Look Like Drowning

Thanks for the post. We passed it on to the young-uns in Florida so they can be more attentive with the babies. There is no point in assuming what they already know. Also, as soon as the grand-kids get a few years older they are learning to swim. They are one and two right now.

    Recognizing Potential Problems

Quite often the person wearing the problem has the worst view of it. Whether it is unusual behavior or a poorly routed hose, it falls to the buddy to see it and act appropriately. Good call.

What is your biggest Fear in diving?

Lion's Mane Jellyfish. I got lashed from cheek to cheek a few years ago and was breathing funny for three days. The doctor gave me an EpiPen to take along when I dive in Hood Canal. So what did I come across last weekend? You get it, one of those kittys. It was only a baby, about the size...

Why dont many SCUBA divers use a snorkel?

I saw a snorkel being used a year or so ago. It was something to do with a snorkel and a beer. I still don't know how it was done.

I now own my gear. Yay!

    Wetsuit

Whereabouts are you in Oregon? Things are warming up now so I'll probably set aside the drysuit in favor of my 7 mil. But that's just me. I have a whole rack of different suits to handle whatever water I end up in. Welcome to the pond.

Mask clearing - struggling with the last few drops.

I had a student a while back who freaked out because she had a few drops of water left in her mask during the clearing skill. I bet she stood up six times in the first fifteen minutes in the pool. I told her to just keep working on it as we went along and I would watch her technique to see if...

    just curious

It may seem a bit like the pool depending on where you are diving at Crystal River. For as big as King's bay looks, there isn't much room to get any depth. I hope you get over to Three Sister's Spring. The first one is a nice bowl, the second is so-so and the third, well, I wouldn't bother...

    Talk Radio... underwater...

You start with a big plastic bag. You throw the radio (or other noise maker) in it and pull the whole thing over your head. Apply duct tape liberally till no water or air can get in or out. An imperfect method, I'm sure, but it largely depends upon whose perspective.
