    Securing backup light.

Excuse me if I am rude jumping into this long running thread, but getting back to the basic question, I have one rule I try to always follow in order to not do dumb and dangerous things: Dive gear that you can afford to lose. It's safer that way. If you drop your backup light, curse or shrug...

POLL - Si Tech or Apeks Drysuit Valves

I love my sideway action Si Tech inflation valve (image here). It's just so natural to use, which I didn't expect before I had tried it in the water. Edit: Interesting, the side action inflation valve still doesn't show up on sitech.se. That's odd. But then again, I have never seen anyone else...

    Gloves for my dry suit

The Viking Bayonet system is absolutely brilliant. You can fit any type of glove you want to it - I use the regular blue fisherman's gloves but also have thicker five finger latex gloves but I find they limit my tactile sense because they're a tad too big. I find donning and doffing these are...

    Hello all...

The drysuit inflation first stage sold by Light Monkey (formerly Salvo) is made by Agir in Sweden. You can find it and their other products here: Dry Suit Inflation. In general they make very high quality gear, but perhaps not in the volumes that Halcyon (et al) produce. A lot of GUE/DIR folks...

    ScubaPro T-Black....

I owned a ScubaPro T-Force - very similar to the T-Black - until a few weeks ago. I was quite pleased with it, but it required more lead to weigh me properly than with any other BCD I have used. It feels a little "lifty" in the water. Quality is good and I like the ScubaPro inflator too (not all...

Remove and put on gear at surface for PADI test - with weights or not?

To answer your questions: No, I have never been on a boat where divers are required to remove their fins before they approach the boat. No, I wouldn't refuse the captain and/or crew's instructions, but I wouldn't mind bringing the subject up for discussion if the waters are rough.

    Who makes HOG regs?

Does anybody anything about the availability of service kits for these regs? Or can you actually use the Apeks kits?

Remove and put on gear at surface for PADI test - with weights or not?

Personally, I would never ever remove my fins until it is my turn to climb the boat ladder! That may be a did-OW-in-a-drysuit practice but I do the same when I dive wet abroad. I take off my fins when I am holding on to the ladder with my hands, not any earlier. Being in a drysuit without fins...

    Led lux

Thanks for the nice write-up! Still, I find numbers don't quite tell the whole story. If I know what a Luxeon K2 looks like in my diving conditions (poor visibility, greenish or red/brown waters) I can get a better idea if I know there are three of those LEDs in a lamp. How is the LED 700 in...

    Led lux

Well, that was more of the same, really. :) Anyhow, for those interested, I dug up the info at the Candlepower forums: The LED LUX uses three Luxeon K2 LEDs.

Using a Drysuit for Buoyancy Control

A quick somersault solves that problem in a couple of seconds. I was taught how to do this when I did my OW. For those of us who actually need the thermal protection provided by the gas in the suit, I very much prefer using my drysuit for buoyancy control. As others in this thread have noted -...

    Led lux

Hello there, Could you please tell me what actual LED light sources are used in the LED LUX? The "Almost 1000 lumens" from the product page says pretty much nothing and is almost worthless for comparing to other lights. Also, the angle of the beam would be good information too.

    Electronic log books

Yes, you can, assuming you mean dive computer. :) And if you get a computer later on, or rent one when you're on vacation, you can start importing dive information from it at that time. You don't have to import data from a dive computer but it makes the entire program so much more interesting...

    Electronic log books

Sure. I am currently importing the dives I have logged using MacDivelog (which I am abandoning) into my JDiveLog, so all my dives aren't there. Also, this is JDiveLog on Linux (Arch Linux on my little EeePC 901 if you must know). It will look a little different on Windows or a Mac (widgets such...
