You are right with the Van der Waals equation and your calculations. However what does this really accomplish?? You could use the redlich-kwong EOS, Clausius EOS, Beattie-Bridgeman EOS or any other equation of state that sticks in coefficients to to account for a gases deviation from ideal...
I made two dive trips to Montserrat in 2009. It is a bit of a hassle to get to since only tiny 19 seater aircraft fly into the island. However, the diving was very good by Eastern Caribbean diving standards. Lots of bigger fish, lobster, rays snake eels etc.
Most Caribbean DM's / Instructors I know wear fullsuits. Only a couple wear shorties but the majority wear 3 mm fullsuits and quite a few 5 mm because of repetitive diving despite it being in warm water.

Having your camera positively buoyant may not be the best of ideas. If you let go of it underwater it will shoot up and be wayyy more of a pain in the neck to go retrieve. If at any point during the dive you need to rest it down, it would be impossible since it will always float away and lastly...

The Bigeye has truly out performed my expectations. Heard a lot of neagtive reviews about it, however, I was very impressed.. the lens glare is there but you can work to minimize it also if you zoom in just a touch it doesn't show up... The two wide angle shots were taken with it and I'm happy...
It all depends on the conditions. In darker/murkier water you may want to use a shutter speed which is a little slower to allow a bit more light in ex. 1/30 - 1/40 and an f stop of 5.6 and up .... If the water is clear with a lot of ambiant light, I use higher f stops and shutter speeds up to...
I've never owned the YS 110a but I do have a YS 17 which I've knocked around for a while and it does a very similar thing when the batteries are low. Have you checked / replaced yours?
